The human body is designed to compensate for loss.

It does, so it no longer needs the things that can't have...

But sometimes the loss is so great, and the body can't compensate on its own.

That's when surgeons get involved.

At Meredith Grey's house, Mallory Shepherd decided to stop over the morning before her first shift back at the hospital, leaving her husband to get the kids ready at home while she went over to see Lexie Grey.

Much to her dismay, the same day that she returned from maternity leave was the same day Lexie had planned a visit to see her sister, Molly. Upstairs in her room, Mallory helped her pack, anxious to get their time in before her shift started.

"Did Louis find you any houses?" Lexie questioned as they folded her clothes. "Anything that looked cool?"

"There were two," Mallory was quick to answer. "One of them has a pool—"

"Ooh," Lexie's eyes went wide, letting her inner child respond. "That would be fun—"

"Except for the fact that we have two under the age of two," Mallory interrupted to add, shaking her head as she concluded. "A pool sounds like my worst nightmare. Even with the proper precautions."

All Lexie could do was nod slowly as she admitted. "That's a fair point. What about the other one?"

"Well, it's bigger than what we planned," Mallory explained with a shrug of her shoulders. "There are five bedrooms, and a spacious backyard. Louis knows the realtor, so he's gonna negotiate some prices for us."

"So," Lexie raised a brow in response. "Those extra bedrooms—"

"One of them will have your name on it, of course," Mallory confirmed with a chuckle. "This way, when shit hits the fan, I have more to offer than a couch."

"In your defense," Lexie made sure to add. "I don't think I've slept on a comfier couch than yours."

While Mallory helped Lexie get her clothes packed into her suitcase, she took the opportunity to question. "How has Meredith been doing with the whole Zola thing? She won't talk about it much, and I think it's cause I'm popping out kids left and right. But I still wanna make sure she's okay, you know?"
