Chapter 17: Ceremonies

A few weeks later, the pups could now talk clearly, and the other pups were growing and were also making their own decisions. They would learn how to hunt from the hunters, learn how to stay focused and more alert from the patrollers/warriors, and learn some smart tips from the healers. The omegas taught them, all the pups. They all gained knowledge thanks to the omegas. They are important to the pack, thought Lupa, who was the female omega herself.

R- Great. Nice. Great conclusion, can we move on?

*****

Weeks later, the older pups had their ceremony. Embry, Evo, Baxter, Aspen, Eskimo, Stalker, Alpine, Destiny, and Raven were the pups who were the "ceremonial pups." Embry, Aspen, Eskimo, Alpine, and Destiny were all chosen for the healers. Evo and Baxter were chosen for the warriors and patrolers. Stalker and Raven were chosen for the hunters. The parents were sad because they knew that in a few years, their pups would disperse and live on their own.

H- Wait, that happens?

L- Oh, yeah. That's... New.

Tempest hated the idea of leaving his mother. But a wise mother, Embry had told him, knows best because she's seen a lot of things and she has gone through almost everything a wolf can imagine.

*****

Caydence was surprised when Lupa walked over to her. "Hey Caydence! I was just wondering if your pups had... well names."

"Oh! No, they don't. I guess it's important we give them names then!"

C- WAIT, THEY'VE EXISTED THIS WHOLE TIME, AND THEY DON'T HAVE NAMES?!

They decided that they would name the pups Bella, Daisy, Charlie, Glacier, and Cooper. There were two boys and three girls. Glacier was the oldest, followed by Bella, Cooper, Charlie, and the youngest of the five, Daisy. When their proud mother asked if they liked their names, they bounced around, yipping happily.

H- (a la Pups) "FINALLY! MY GOD!"

"I think that's a yes!" Caydence chuckled.

*****

The pack heard an uncomfortably familiar cry out.

L- Wonderful.

*****

"HUMANS!"

R- Terrific.

*****

"Protect the pups!"

H- Happy day.

*****

Koda, Lupa, and all the other adults gathered the pups and brought them to the back of the den. Lupa was working tirelessly. She had to care extra for all the newborn pups while the parents of the other pups that were not Lupa's pulled down the vine entrance so that the humans would think it was a "spooky cave."

C- Checks out. Always drives you guys away!

Finally, when the other parents beelined toward the pack of the room, they looked at Lupa with empathy and thanks on their faces as the mothers took their own pups to care. A former mother, Star,

L- Terrible choice for a mother.

was asked to stay in the cave to care for Apollo and Alaska's pups. She gladly had said yes, and now was caring for the hungry puppies. The rest of the pack however... well Koda just had to hope for the best.

*****

The humans were close, but far away as well. They could smell and hear them, but the wolves had to come to the humans to lead them away from their new homes. Their pointy sticks shoot weird oval things that only eagle-eyed wolves could see. It had killed many wolves, but everyone had to face humans at some point.

R- Core memory for a pup near you!

Apollo led the pack towards the humans, which he thought was not the right thing to do, but also it was, in a way. Once the humans came into sight, the male alpha gave the signal to start growling. One by one, all the wolves' ears started to press against their heads. They revealed their pink gums by pulling back their lips and baring their teeth. Then, even more growling proceeded.

H- "Yeah, it got REALLY LOUD."

The wolves growled until the humans backed away and started to flee. They chased the humans. They chased and chased and chased them until they were out of the forest.

"And STAY OUT!" growled Flint loudly, the second most aggressive of the quadruplets. Although the humans could not understand the wolves, they seemed to get the message: Stay out and do NOT come back. Alaska led the wolves at a brisk pace back to the den. Alaska peeked her head into the den and told the parents with the newborn pups,

"They are gone. We are safe."

L- THE END! I'm DONE!

(she leaves)

Others- Wait, what?

Epilogue

Moon prances around her mother, the leader of the Star Wolves. Her father, a constellation shines brightly down on them, the first ever Star Wolf to pass.

H- Wait, guys, lore.

Moon has special abilities, such as to heal and swim like a merwolf, a legend. Moon does not know this, but she is to pass down these genetics to her own pups, as long as they are born under the blue moon.

C- And drink it, too!

She has many other abilities as well. She has a long journey ahead of her, and will learn from the best, her mother.

R- That's... Great.

The End!

Be sure to check out the Prequel: The Star Wolves Rise!

C- Which I'm sure doesn't exist.

(Screams are heard faintly)

H- What was that?

R- Our cue to leave!
