When Mallory Shepherd arrived in Seattle to start her internship, she had planned to talk to Louis's sister Annie and secure an apartment, wanting a fresh start after leaving Los Angeles, where she had spent her time with her close friends who felt like family.

They say that destiny is everything...

However, when a new lead on where she was sparked four months sooner, Griffin Ross had come back the day before she started her internship. And once he returned, she never arrived for her first day at Seattle Grace Hospital.

That there are pieces of your life puzzle that slowly slide into place over time.

Soon after, Mallory Shepherd moved out of Seattle and around the country, back into the messy, abusive relationship with Griffin Ross. And she went back to the life that she had known in New York, her attempt at an escape labeled as pointless.

But there is one thought that pops into mind...

Five years later, when they were back in Seattle, there was another bad fight that had led to Mallory's injuries being bad enough to need medical attention, and she went to the place she was supposed to start her internship, which was now known as Seattle Grace Mercy West.

What if your destiny was thrown off course?

Mallory was skeptical as she walked through the doors of the free clinic, trying to avoid eye contact with any of the people along her way. She knew that, because of her injuries, it would be hard to deflect away from what they were caused by, even though she was determined to try.

There are so many things that could have changed everything...

One of the nurses brought her to one of the beds, and it didn't take long for one of the doctors to arrive. He was tall with a buzzed haircut, and when he looked down at her chart, which listed a broken nose and ribs at the top of her injuries, it made him raise a brow.

So many different possibilities.

"Um, hi. I'm Alex Karev; I'll be your doctor today," Alex greeted her with a nod. "Just looking at your chart, I'm sure I could take a guess at what brought you in."

"Yeah," Mallory rolled her eyes in response. "I'm sure."

"So, I have to ask," Alex continued, eyeing the woman as he asked. "Based on my observations, you know, are you in a domestic violence situation? Do you need anyone to come down to talk to you?"
