Title is the song 'Ranjhana' from the movie of same name

On Monday, Sameer was relieved to see that work related issues were almost completed in office, except a few files.

"Zyada kaam nahi hai. Iss week saari meetings khatam kar lete hain. Jisse next week panic na ho." He mentioned to Naina after they had finished working on one of the files, next week being the end of this financial year.

She checked the list, "Mr Mahajan se meeting baaki hai, Mumbai wale clients ki statement abhi aayi nahi hai aur ek Regal Textiles ke records clarify karwane hain. Rest all is under control."

"Rohan ko kehta hun Mumbai ke liye. Aur Mr Mahajan se toh abhi meeting fix kar lete hain." Sameer picked up office phone.

Mr Mahajan's loud, always jubilant voice made him put the phone away from his ear, on speaker, "Oho Sameer ji, ki haal chaal. Koi party sharty de rahe ho kya jo aaj humein yaad kiya?" And before Sameer could answer, he laughed, "Sir ji ek baar phir se shaadi di vadhaiyan. Woh party toh badi hi shaandaar thi. Lekin aapse ek baat ki naarazgi hai. Aapne hamara dinner invitation accept nahi kiya."

Sameer rolled his eyes at Naina, pointing at the phone. He always wondered how Mr Mahajan was running such a big and successful business. All he seemed to be interested in was food and parties.

Making his voice extra polite, he spoke into the phone, "Pakka dinner karenge Mr Mahajan. Bas abhi schedule thoda tight chal raha hai. Aap toh jaante hi hain yeh month kaisa rehta hai. In fact maine phone bhi isiliye kiya tha. Hamari ek meeting fix karni hai iss week jab bhi aapko suit kare."

Mr Mahajan seemed to think before answering, "Iss week... aaj rakh lein kya? Lunch ke baad."

Sameer flicked his brows at Naina. She shook her head, showing him another file. They already had a meeting planned for today post lunch.

Sameer was apologetic, "Sorry lekin aaj toh humein doosre meeting mein jaana hai. What about tomorrow?"

There was a pause, then his voice, "Sameer ji, next three days bade tight hain. Mushkil lagta hai."

"How about Friday?" Sameer suggested.

"Friday? Oh ji, aapki nayi nayi shaadi hui hai. Friday ko aap humse meeting karoge?" Mr Mahajan chuckled, "Wife ne naaraz ho jaana hai."

Without giving Sameer a chance to reply, he lowered his voice, "Bada special day hota hai ji. Sabki chutti isliye toh hai, ki sab enjoy karein."

Sameer gave a puzzled look to Naina. She quickly checked the calendar on her phone, and realised why it was a holiday.

Mr Mahajan was a little serious as he spoke again, "Chalo main Wednesday ka try karta hun, morning mein. Chalega aapko?"

Naina gave him a thumbs up sign. Sameer conveyed his acceptance and ended the call.

"Friday ko kya hai Naina?" He looked at her.

"Holi." She shrugged, "Closed holiday hai."

Suddenly Sameer's mind was drifted back to the day in Naina's house, when he had dreamed about their Holi together.

Naina swayed her head, getting back to work on her laptop, "Bekaar mein ek din waste ho gaya. Kaun khelta hai Holi aajkal."

Sameer chewed his lip. He himself wasn't the one who liked this festival... which stained not just your clothes but whole of you. While Rohan and Deepika enjoyed whole heartedly, he always preferred to watch his family from his terrace. Knowing his obsession about any mark, no one forced him either.
