Erin and Jay were in bed when Jay suddenly started groaning and grabbing his stomach.

"Babe?" Erin whispered softly.

Jay closed his eyes firmly and drew his knees up to his chest.

"Jay? What's wrong?" Erin asked, concerned.

Erin sat up and peeled back the duvet.

"Hey. Lie on your back," she suggested gently.

Jay shook his head, remaining curled up.

"Baby, if you lie flat, I can rub your tummy," Erin offered soothingly.

Jay accepted the offer and slowly lay on his back.

"There you go," Erin smiled.

Erin slid her hand under Jay's nightshirt and gently rubbed his stomach.

"It's alright, I've got you," Erin soothed.

Jay closed his eyes and drifted back to sleep.

Morning came, and Erin and Jay were taking Ashlyn to school.

Jay struggled to keep his eyes open as if it were a task.

"Hey, close your eyes. I'll get some paracetamol from the pharmacy," Erin whispered.

Jay nodded and fell back into sleep.

"Is Daddy okay?" Ashlyn asked.

Erin nodded and pulled up outside the school.

"He's just got a bit of an upset tummy, sweetie," Erin explained.

Ashlyn nodded and stepped out of the truck.

"Mom? My tummy hurts..." Cassie moaned.

Erin smirked, glancing at her eldest daughter.

"Really? Because as soon as I mentioned that Dad had a stomach ache, you suddenly claimed to have one as well," Erin observed.

Cassie sighed and exited the truck.

"That's the life with a detective for a mom, sweetie!" Erin shouted.

Cassie closed the door and walked through the school gates.

"Oh Baby! Let's go to the pharmacist," Erin whispered.

She shifted into gear and drove off.

Erin and Jay got home, with Jay fast asleep on her lap.

As Erin watched the movie, she softly scratched his back under his shirt, a comforting action that helped him stay asleep for several hours.

At school, Cassie found it hard to concentrate on the teacher's words.

She raised her hand, catching the teacher's attention.

"Yes, Cassie?" inquired Miss Thwaites.

"I have a bellyache. May I go to the nurse's office?" Cassie asked.

With a nod from Miss Thwaites, who then resumed the lesson, Cassie headed to the nurse's office.

"Cassie! To what do I owe this pleasure?" greeted Miss Green.

Cassie sighed, clutching her stomach.

"I have a bellyache and feel dizzy," she explained.

Miss Green gave a gentle smile and nodded.

"Lie down on the bed, and I'll call your mom or dad," she said.

Cassie complied, lying down on the examination bed.

Meanwhile, as Erin watched the ending credits, her phone began to ring.

Cassie's school

Erin answered the ringing phone.

"Lindsay." Erin replied.

Erin sighed and spoke into the phone.

"Alright. I'll come pick her up. Give me 10 Minutes..." Erin replied.

Erin ended the call and carefully laid Jay's head on the pillow.

"Mmm... I was comfortable on your knees..." Jay murmured with a pout.

Erin mirrored his pout as she picked up her keys.

"I know, love. Cassie's ill. I need to go get her. I'll be back soon!" Erin promised.

Jay sighed and drew the blanket up to his chest.

Erin soon arrived at the school and entered.

"Hey! Sorry, Jay's sick too..." Erin apologized.

Miss Green gave a soft laugh, and Cassie came out.

"Hi, Sweetie!" Erin greeted with a smile.

Cassie approached her mom and embraced her.

"Thanks. She'll be back next week," Erin said with a smile.

Miss Green nodded and bid them farewell.

"Why didn't you believe me when I said I was sick?" Cassie inquired.

As Erin drove out of the parking lot, she responded.

"What was I supposed to think? I assumed you wanted to skip school, especially after I mentioned your dad was sick..." Erin clarified.

Cassie let out a sigh and shut her eyes.

Twenty minutes later, Erin and Cassie returned to the apartment to find Jay sitting up.

"Hi Kiddo!" greeted Jay with a smile.

Cassie returned the smile and headed upstairs.

"She looks pale..." observed Jay.

Erin sighed heavily and took a seat.

"Ugh! I already feel bad!" Erin groaned.

Jay chuckled quietly and soothed Erin's arm.

"What's going on?" inquired Jay.

Erin propped her legs up and began to recount the day.

"I was telling Ashlyn about your upset stomach. Cassie overheard and I assumed she was pretending, but it turns out she really did have a stomach ache..." Erin shared.

Jay's laughter was gentle as he drew Erin close for comfort.

"Oh Babe, your detective skills weren't as sharp as usual," Jay sighed.

Erin snuggled into Jay's chest and closed her eyes.

After Erin drifted off, Jay also fell asleep.
