Platt was seated at her desk when the door swung open, revealing a middle-aged woman with a handbag and sunglasses.

"Can I help you?" Platt inquired.

The woman nodded and responded.

"I'm looking for Jay Halstead," Ariana stated.

Platt nodded and questioned further.

"May I know who is asking for him?" Platt inquired.

Ariana smirked, releasing a dry chuckle.

"Just tell him. it's his mother," Ariana said with a smile.

Platt, though puzzled, nodded in agreement.

"Alright, I'll call him," Platt responded with a smile.

Ariana nodded, taking in the surroundings of the district.

"Can you come downstairs? Someone's here to see you," Platt said.

After receiving confirmation, Platt ended the call.

"He's coming down now," Platt affirmed with another nod.

Exiting the gate with a buzz, Jay's complexion went ashen.

"There's my Jaybird!" Ariana greeted with a smile.

Approaching her, Jay was at a loss for words.

"What? I-I thought you were... I thought you were gone..." he managed to say.

Ariana gave a light chuckle and exhaled a sigh.

"You've always been one to trip over words," She teased with a laugh.

Jay stood there, mouth agape in shock.

"Close your mouth. Jay. Nobody likes a dribbler," Ariana retorted.

Bewilderment washed over Jay. When had his mother become so cruel?

"Mom? What's happening? Why are you acting like this?" Jay asked.

Ariana let out a sigh and presented her wedding ring to Jay.

"I've remarried, and now I own a clothing line," Ariana declared with pride.

Jay was at a loss for words.

"And you're a cop? Your dad used to run from cops," Ariana pointed out.

Jay nodded, his gaze falling to the ground.

"Listen, I'm heading to my hotel. You're welcome to come over once you decide to stop playing cop and start being the regular guy your dad hoped you'd be," Ariana said.

Platt was taken aback. It was incomprehensible to him how a mother could treat her son in such a cruel way.

"Alright, leave my district now!" Platt commanded.

With a smirk. Ariana exited the district.

Once the doors were shut. Platt turned to Jay.

"Halstead, are you okay?" Platt asked.

Jay met Platt's gaze and nodded affirmatively.

"Yes, absolutely," Jay replied with a smile.

Platt nodded, and Jay returned upstairs.

"Hey! Who was that lucky person?" Adam inquired.

Jay chuckled quietly, while Antonio observed Jay's pallor.

"Uh-oh! Whoever it was made Jay turn pale..." Antonio remarked.

Erin glanced up, seeing Jay's eyes, red and teary.
