Two weeks had passed since Jay's discharge from the hospital, and he was prepared to sit for the sergeant's exam.

Sitting in the truck. Jay could feel his nerves mounting.

"Babe? I can see the whirls spinning in your head..." Erin chimed in.

Jay nodded with a sigh.

"Hailey's taking the exam. I always feel like I'm one step behind her," Jay lamented.

Erin shook her head and gave Jay's hand a reassuring squeeze.

"Honey, you're only thinking what you want to think, and what you're thinking is not true," Erin clarified.

Jay sighed, glancing at the time.

"It's going to be fine! You're going to be fine! Don't let Upton get into your head..." Hank reassured.

Jay nodded and exited the truck.

The door closed with a slam, prompting Erin to sigh.

"He's going to let Hailey get to him..." She murmured.

Around her, the team sighed collectively, taking sips from their coffees.

Jay soon found himself in the waiting area, with Hailey taking a seat beside him.

"Are you sure you want to sit for this exam?" Hailey inquired.

Jay gave Hailey a nod of affirmation.

"The doctor gave me the all-clear for active and full duty. I'm fine," Jay assured with another nod.

Hailey returned the nod, leaning in to whisper conspiratorially.

"I'm going to kick your ass," She murmured.

Unfazed. Jay didn't let Hailey's words get to him and proceeded into the exam hall.

Hours later. Jay completed the exam and returned to his apartment.

He let out a weary sigh and made his way to the lounge.

"Hey!" greeted Hank with a smile.

Jay offered a brief smile before hurrying to the bathroom.

"I'll check on him," Erin said softly.

She followed Jay's path to the bathroom and entered.

"Oh, honey," Erin cooed gently.

Approaching Jay, she crouched beside him.

"Those chairs are so uncomfortable. I've felt like throwing up all day," Jay admitted with a sigh.

Erin soothed Jay's back and lower area to help alleviate some of the discomfort.

"It's alright, I've got you. How about some nice Zucchini Noodles?" Erin smiled.

Jay gagged and then threw up into the bowl.

"Damn, sorry, baby," Erin sighed.

The results came back and they weren't what Hailey was expecting

Jay Halstead - 55%
Hailey Upton - 53%
Isabella Willows - 25%
Kira Kristen - 35%
Lucy Chen - 45%

"No way!" Hailey whispered, her face contorting in anger before she stormed away.

The team had departed to give Erin and Jay some privacy, and the room fell silent.

Jay was sound asleep on Erin's lap, her fingers gently caressing his hair.

"Let's get you up to our nice comfy bed," Erin murmured with a smile.

Cradling Jay in her arms, Erin ascended the stairs.

The door closed behind them, sealing the tranquil atmosphere.
