Cassie was in her bedroom, engaging in a chat on her computer with someone she had met online two days ago.
Cassie:
So, what you up to?
Spencer
Nothing much. You?
Cassie:
In my bedroom, talking to you...
Spencer
Fair enough..
"CASSIE!" Jay yelled,
Rolling her eyes. She then recalled, with a dramatic sigh, the impending visit to her grandma's house.
Cassie:
I have to go...
Spencer:
Why?
Cassie:
Have to see my grandma!
Spencer:
Can't you stay?
Cassie:
No. Sorry...
Spencer:
Damn! Alright...
Cassie:
I'll text you when I'm back!
Spencer:
Okay, bye!
Cassie:

Cassie hit the logout button and bolted from her room.
"About time! Were you growing roots in there?" Jay teased.
With a dramatic sigh, Cassie shoved on her sneakers.
"Yep, just buried in homework," Cassie fibbed.
Jay played along, tying Ashlyn's sneakers with a flourish.
"Baba! Baba!" Nadia gurgled.
Cassie sidled up, beaming at her little sister.
"Hey there, Mini-Me!" Cassie grinned.
Nadia responded with a chuckle and an enthusiastic round of applause from her baby-sized palms.
"Come on, you!" Jay encouraged with a coo.
Nadia responded with a giggle, playfully chewing on Jay's shirt.
"Yo! Babe!" Jay shouted.
Erin descended the stairs and slipped into her heels.
"Let's hit the road!" Erin beamed with excitement.
The Halstead family exited their apartment, firmly closing the door behind them.
At Gloria's house. She swung the door open with a grin.
"Hey there, Jaybird!" She beamed.
Jay returned the smile and embraced her.
"Hey Nana!" He beamed back.
After a warm hug, Gloria ushered the kids inside.
"Gramps is MIA; where's he hiding?" Jay quizzed.
