Chapter 111

In the stillness of the night. Erin and Jay remained asleep, while Cassie was awakened by a sudden knock at the door.

Cassie got up from her bed and walked out of the room.

As Cassie peered into Erin and Jay's room. She noticed they were fast asleep.

Cassie gently closed the door and walked downstairs.

The knocks got louder and Cassie got worried.

"Alright! Alright!" Cassie shouted.

Cassie unlocked the door and opened it.

It was childcare worker who had two cops behind her.

"Can I help you?" Cassie asked.

Louise smiled and introduced herself.

"Hi I'm Louise Kerrigan from department of child and family services. Does a Mr and Mrs Halstead live at this address?" Louise asked.

Cassie nodded slowly and was getting worried.

"Are you able to get them?" Louise asked.

Cassie nodded and shut the door.

Cassie soon got to Erin and Jay's bedroom and shook them awake.

"Mom! Dad! Wake the hell up!" Cassie exclaimed.

Erin groaned and Jay woke up.

"Cassie? It's 2AM. What's wrong?" Jay asked.

Cassie sighed and replied.

"Some lady from child services is here!" Cassie replied.

Erin and Jay looked at each other and got out of bed.

"Stay with Nadia. Don't come out of this room..." Erin instructed.

Cassie nodded and gently soothed Nadia to sleep.

Erin and Jay shut the door and walked downstairs.

"Child services? What have we done?" Erin asked.

Jay shrugged and walked towards the door.

"Hi. Are you Mr and Mrs Halstead?" Louise asked.

Erin and Jay nodded and asked.

"Yes. Who are you?" Jay asked.

"I'm Louise Kerrigan. Department of Children services." Louise introduced.

Erin and Jay looked at each other and replied.

"Can we see some ID?" Erin asked.

Louise showed her ID and Erin and Jay looked down.

"What do you want?" Jay sighed.

Louise nodded and explained.

"We've had a red flag that your kids have been abused while being in your care." Louise explained.

Erin and Jay scoffed and replied.

"Who made the complaint? Was it Alan?" Jay wondered.

"We're not at liberty to say but we do have to take Ashlyn. Cassie and Nadia out of your care until this investigation is closed." Louise explained.

Erin and Jay shook their heads and wore scowls.

"If you refuse to hand your kids to me. these cops will have to take you into custody." Louise explained.

Erin and Jay had tears in their eyes and shook their heads.

"We don't know you from a load of wood! We're not handing our kids over!" Erin exclaimed.
