‘I am gonna stick to my word... If my opponent is Gray... I am walking back... I am not gonna fight him.’ Gems thought with a racing heart and anxiety had taken over as he had sweat forming on his forehead and his legs felt wobbly. He was feeling nauseous.

The crowd erupted when their partners were revealed.

Gems's eyes started to water and he felt like he was gonna faint when he saw Gray on the graphic.

“Gray...” Gems mumbled. The crowd erupted, the people in Fiore were jumping in excitement as they saw the graphics, while Gems was just standing there looking at the graphic while shivering.

“Yes! Yes! Yes!” The crowd was chanting.

Gems couldn't believe because the match that was announced was Gems D'Cruz and Gray Fullbuster vs Yunk Grinberryall and Lyon Vastia. ‘But how.... How?’ Gems thought with watery eyes.

Seth was stunned as well, he did everything in his power and already had manipulated the management for Gems and Gray to be on opposite teams. But his tricks didn't work for whatever reason.

The crowd was cheering loudly as Gray and Lyon walked out and made their ways towards their partners. Yuno was nodding while Gems stood there speechless, his heart was racing.

‘What... What is happening?’ Gems thought in confusion as he took deep breathes.

He saw Lyon and Yuno fist bump while Gray was walking towards him with a wide smile and a ‘Told you so’ look on his face. Gems looked at his stand and everyone had the same expressions, and when he looked at the Fairy Tail stand, he frowned in confusion because he saw everyone cheering and jumping with happiness.

Gems's eyes widened.

‘How am I still able to see Master Mavis?’ Gems thought when he eyes fell on Mavis.

“Hello? Earth to Gems!?” Gray said as he shook Gems by his shoulders, getting the glasses wearing boy out of his trance.

“Huh? Gray? Wh-what's happening?” Gems asked immediately. “I... I thought you were-” he asked but Gray just smiled in response. Gray put his hand on Gems's head and patted him, calming Gems down.

“Told you not to worry about this.” Gray said with a smile.

“But how? Seth said? I-”

“Master Mavis works in mysterious ways.” Gray said a proud smile on his face. And Gems's eyes widened. “We wanted to compete as a duo in Grand Magic Games, right?” Gray asked and Gems nodded. “Well then this is our moment.” Gray added and Gems realized it.

‘Gems! Gray! Don't worry! You got this! You guys can do it!’ Gems's eyes widened when he Mavis's voice in his head. 

“Gray I heard-”

“Shhh! I know!” Gray immediately said shutting Gems down. Gems was still confused but he figured that it was Master Mavis's magic that got him and Gray on the same team. He looked at Gray and calmed down.

“We meet again, Fullbuster.” Lyon said grabbing their attention. “But this time, the victory will be mine.” he added.

“You wish.” Gray just scoffed. “When me and my partner work as a single unit, there's no stopping us. And you already know that.” Gray said emphasizing on the word, partner.

“Be careful, he might turn on you during the match.” Yuno laughed.

“Hey! I'd never turn on him!” Gems yelled back and immediately shut his mouth as the crowd applauded. Gray looked at Gems being all flustered and he smiled.
