Gems had shut his eyes tightly while listening to Gray's heartbeats. He knew what he had to do. He had tears rolling down his cheeks, dropping on Gray's jacket along with his blood drops.

Gray couldn't even wipe any of their tears.

Both of them were feeling so helpless. Gray had accepted the fact that this was their last moment together. He pecked Gems on his head.

“I'm proud of you...” Gray mumbled to Gems but Gems didn't respond with anything. Gray closed his eyes as he felt Gems's heart beating against his.

Gray was recalling every moment he had with Gems, every happy moment, while the timer was nearing its end.

Gems tightened his grip around Gray, squeezing his eyes making more tears fall, as they all heard the timer went off, with it reaching at 00 seconds, their time was up. Seth immediately started laughing.

“Gemsie...” Gray mumbled.

The very next second, that metal cross had started glowing, emitting a lot of magic energy.

“Wind Protection Spell: Cold Skin!”

Gems found a window of opportunity between the timer going off and the metal cross exploding. It was a do or die situation, he had to pull through and he did.

His spell worked, but not fully, but he was able to save Gray's life.

The explosion caused him and Gray getting launched on to the ground and crashing on the ground. Their bodies hot the ground while everyone was screaming and yelling in fear.

Everything was blurry, and Gray was still feeling that deafening silence in his ears due to that loud explosion as his head was hurting.

“Oww!” Gray groaned in pain as he grabbed his head. “Huh?” Gray rubbed his eyes and looked at himself.

“I am alive? Gemsie?” Gray mumbled as he touched himself on the face and he was unharmed as he sat up.

“Gray!” Gray turned his head around when he heard Lucy's voice. His eyes widened when he saw that everyone was still wrapped up within the vines. “Check on Gems! Hurry up!” Lucy yelled again while crying.

“Gems... What happened to Gems?” Gray asked as he looked here and there and gasped when he saw Gems laying on the ground not much far from him.

Gray's heart beat were racing as he saw the condition Gems was in. Clothes torn, injured and bleeding. Gray immediately got up and ran towards Gems, almost falling while trying to get to him.

“Gemsie... Gems.. Gems... No... No! No! No!” Gray was stressing as he looked at Gems. Gray immediately removed his jacket and wrapped it around Gems's injured body, to cover him up.

Gray made Gems lay his head on his lap and tried to wake him up.

“Gems... Gems... Wake up! Wake up! Open your eyes Gems... Please!” Gray's voice cracked as he tried waking Gems up, he couldn't control his tears as his tears fell directly on Gems's face.

Everyone's hearts were racing as they heard Gray crying with Gems in his arms. Gray looked okay to them, but on the other hand, Gems was completely taken out and it didn't look like he was in a good shape at all. He looked even worse than how they found his decoy after the tunnel accident incident.

“G-Gray...” Gems mumbled as he tried to open his eyes.

Gray's eyes widened as he couldn't feel any magic energy coming from Gems. His devil slayer senses were working perfectly but he couldn't sense Gems at all. The bond was slowly fading away, that bond was the rope of Gems's lifeline.
