Everyone leaves to go home knowing Colleen is as fine as she can be at this point. I am staying with her overnight. I need to be with her. She is sleeping after eating something as I look at her from the couch in the room. I see the nurse walk in and starts checking her over. She checks Colleens IV line in her leg and adjusts it. "Is that for her pain?" I ask whispering as I approach her . "Kind of. Doctors use it for all kinds of stomach surgeries and bad leg injuries. It turns off the nerve endings to limit her pain. She will be off of it tomorrow night. That might be rough for her but we will look after her" she says. She lifts her gown up checks her belly as Colleen starts waking up. I smile at her. She notices the nurse and smiles. "How you doing?" The nurse asks. "A little sore" she says as the nurse feels around her abdomen. "Gonna roll you a bit ok?" the nurse says. The nurse lifts her and rolls her and I see Colleens back. Its how they put her kidney in through her back. It looks terrible. "Looks like you got hit by a truck babe" I say holding her hand. "I don't feel anything" she says smiling. "Take it easy or you will end up paying for it" the nurse adds. "I will keep her still" I say smiling. " Bathroom?" Colleen asks. "We have a catheter in as we want to measure how much urine your body is producing and check if the kidney is being accepted" she says. I nod and smile at the nurse and sit beside Colleen. The nurse leaves and leaves the two of us alone. Colleen smiles at me. I start gently rubbing her stomach as I watch her face. "You always did this when I was pregnant" she says smiling. "Love feeling your skin" I say kissing her cheek. We sit there for a while longer before we sleep. I pull out the couch and lay down as Colleen is already sleeping. "Joshua" I hear very quietly. "Yes baby?" I reply. "I am so glad I am here" she says. "Me too" I say as I quietly cry.
I hear moaning and it wakes me right up.Colleen is sitting up with the nurse sitting beside her. "Baby?" I say rushing over. "It's ok. She is just feeling some mild pain" the nurse says smiling. I stand in front of her and grab her knees staring up into her face. "Colleen?" I ask bringing tears to my eyes. "Your body is mending sweetheart ok?" I say kissing her nose. She is hot. "She seems warm no?" I ask. "Yes she has a bit of a temperature but it is normal with this type of surgery. Just have to make sure it doesn't stay up there" she says as she walks out. "They are so nice here. I rang for her and she came in right away" Colleen says grabbing my hand. "You should call for me too babe" I say sitting beside her. "You don't have drugs babe" she says smiling as she lays back down. I get her all comfy again and cover her. "Sleep sweetheart" I say kissing her. I walk over to my bed and stare at her from across the room. "Love you baby" I whisper as she sleeps.
