Josh POV
The doctor tells us this fever and pain is not common with someone whose body will accept the kidney. I break down in the hallway as Gwen and I hug. He tells us he is going to try more aggressive meds to see if they will help. We accept that and play the waiting game. We walk back into the room and Colleen has her eyes closed. She asks us to leave for a bit. It crushes me that she doesn't want me in the room even if it is for a short period of time. The family and I walk down to the cafeteria and we buy something to eat and relax for a bit. We try to have a normal conversation on anything other than what is happening just a few floors upstairs. I didn't realize it but I was starving. We all were as I scan everyone's plates. "Ready to go see her again? " I ask. Everyone nods and we make our way back upstairs and I see nurses rushing around the floor and in and out of Colleens room. I start running towards her room and a nurse stops me. "Mr Evans, just give us a moment with her ok? Wait here" she says. "Whats going on? You need to tell me" I ask as she holds me back. "She couldn't catch her breath so she called us" she says. "She what? Oh my god!" I say. I look at Gwen and her and Tim grab hands. I stand back with them and things calm down. "Go ahead" she says to us as we rush into her room. She has oxygen on and is sleeping. I sit beside her and watch her quietly. She has a new machine attached to her finger measuring her heartbeat/pulse. I put my head in my hands and pray she gets better. "Josh we are going to send your mom so she can come see you here ok?" Gwen says standing above me. I nod not saying a word. They can tell I am loosing it. They turn around and leave and I lay on the couch staring at the ceiling. I close my eyes and try to compose myself. I need to stay strong.
"Joshua you ok?" My mom asks standing above me as I lay on the couch. I sit up and hug her as she sits down to me. "Joshua you have to be positive. She will be fine"she says. I hug her again and I get up to sit with Colleen. She slowly starts waking up. "Hi baby" she says sweetly. "Hi hun. Doing better?" I ask. She nods. "Colleen you look good. Your colour in your cheeks" my mom says smiling. A nurse walks in and checks Colleen out. "Gonna turn off your leg IV tonight. On a happier note your vitals are really good. Temperature is down and your kidney seems to be functioning much better" she says as she leaves. "The new medicine is working" I say kissing her lips. She nods and smiles and closes her eyes again.
