(a/n: mentions of blood and injury. flashback in italics)
Thorin fell to his knees next to you in shock and panic. The entire time you'd been traveling with the Company, not once had you been hurt, not even a scratch. But here you were, bleeding all over yourself and the ground under you. Thorin whispered Khuzdul curses under his breath at the orcs that were the cause of your injuries. As he watched your body trembling and the light leaving your eyes, Thorin thought back. The feelings worming their way into his head and heart were foreign to Thorin, but he was certain, for you, they'd been there nearly since the moment you met.
You looked over your shoulder and your eyes met those of the gruff leader. You flashed a smile before you sliced at the Warg charging at you. The Company stared at you in awe as you turned to them, sheathing your sword. "Hello," was all you said with a dazzling grin. That was the start of your adventure.
The longer you were with the Company, the more they grew to care for you and you for them. Especially Thorin, although you'd never tell him that. After all, it wasn't if he could ever feel the same. To him, you were simply another warrior, only of the female variety. You fought with his people and aided them in their quest. Thorin admired your skill, just as the rest of the Company did, but he also felt more for you than he let on. However, nothing was going to make him admit it, or so he believed.
"Gandalf," Thorin whispered. As he stared at your rapidly weakening body, he realized how he truly felt about you. The Company was gathered around you, looking on with melancholy faces and even a few tears. Gandalf pushed through gently and knelt beside you. Your eyes were now closed and you were barely breathing. "Can you save her?" Thorin asked the wizard, his voice on the edge of begging. Gandalf placed his hand over your wound and whispered a sort of spell.
No sooner were the words out of his mouth did your eyes open. You inhaled sharply and tried to sit up. "No, Y/N," Thorin said, more gently than he'd spoken to anyone on the journey before. "You must rest," he ordered before turning to the Company, "We'll camp here." Thorin looped one arm under your legs and scooped you up bridal style. "T-Thorin?" you asked, weakly. He looked at you and smiled. "I thought we lost you and it nearly tore me apart."
"What are you saying?" Your voice was steadily becoming stronger. "I am saying that it took Gandalf's miracle for me to realize my feelings for you." You tilted your head. "Y-your feelings?" Thorin cleared his throat, slightly embarrassed. He'd never really been in this position before, but he was now and he was determined. "I am unaccustomed to this, but I find myself struggling for the words." You laughed slightly before wincing.
You leaned in and kissed his bearded cheek. "I think I love you too, my King," you whispered. The smile that graced Thorin's face was nothing short of brilliant. He took you into his own tent and laid you down. "Sleep, my love," he said, kissing your forehead. Your eyes closed and, as you drifted off, you felt Thorin lay down beside you and wrap his arms around you. Another kiss to the forehead and the sweet whispers of "I love you" lulled you into a deep sleep.
