You knew you were different. No one ever said otherwise. But you weren't treated poorly just because you weren't exactly human. You were an elf. An elf raised by humans. You weren't sure what happened to your real family and no one in your small little village knew either. You were found at the edge of the forest, wrapped in a blanket with a letter tucked inside, by a couple out foraging for plants when you were only a babe.

You loved your human family though. They raised you as a human, but also taught you as many Elvish traditions and words as they could. You didn't want for anything really. But there was a part of you that longed to learn where you came from. That yearned for an adventure that would allow you to see your true heritage. It was how you ended up on a journey toward a place you knew only as "The Hidden Valley."

"Hidden" was an appropriate word to describe the place you were trying to find. It took longer than you ever thought possible. But you weren't one to give up. In the end, you'd be glad you didn't. You gasped at the stunning sight of the valley before you when you finally found it. It was like nothing you'd ever seen before. It was almost overwhelming. You felt like you didn't belong there...except you did. If the letter from your true mother was to be believed.

You steadied your nerves and entered the valley. To your surprise, you weren't greeted by any warriors. Instead you were greeted by an elf with long brown hair who you would come to learn was Lindir, the lord of the realm's steward. He approached you the way one approaches a baby deer. He asked you a question in Elvish, but you weren't sure what he said. "Are you alright? Are you lost?" he asked again in the Common Tongue. You shook your head.

"I do not believe so," you replied and told him who you were and why you were there. He smiled and bowed his head a little. "Then you are welcome here. I shall escort you to Lord Elrond immediately." You nodded nervously, but followed him anyway. While you walked, you couldn't keep your eyes from straying from one thing to the next. It was all so lovely, from the elves training, to the one practicing music, to the beautiful gardens. You took in everything with a sense of awe, ignoring the pull you were feeling in a different direction. At least until you were standing outside a door and Lindir asked you to wait.

As you waited, you felt something in your stomach that you couldn't describe. At first, you thought you were imagining things or that you were nervous. But the longer you stood there, the more you realized that it was a different kind a feeling. A pull you weren't used to. A pull that seemed to be coming from inside the room Lindir had entered. You wondered what or who was behind the door and, fortunately, you would soon find out.

The door opened and Lindir beckoned you in with a smile. On shaking knees, you entered the room. The pull was even stronger in that small room, but it didn't frighten you. It gave you a sense of belonging. You cast a glance back at Lindir who gave you an encouraging smile. So you turned back toward the desk in front of you.

The elf at the desk looked up and you felt your heart jump to your throat. Nerves for sure this time...right? Dark eyes gazed kindly at you while the elf's lips were upturned into a small grin. You gave a traditional Elvish greeting, though your mind was all abuzz. "My lord," you greeted, cursing your tongue for trying to stick to the roof of your mouth at a time like this, "I greatly appreciate you taking the time for me. I am here-"

He held up a hand to cut you off. "I know why you've come, Y/N. You look very much like your parents." You blinked at him in confusion. "You knew my parents?" He nodded and bid you to sit down. "What happened to them?" you asked softly. You weren't even certain you wanted an answer, but part of you needed to know. And another part of you felt drawn to the older elf. Was he where you were feeling the pull from? You didn't know, but you did know that you weren't ready to depart from his company quite yet.

Elrond frowned slightly, but explained what happened to your parents and how they met their fate. It was unsettling, but at least you knew now. And they had tried to make certain you were taken care of. By the time Elrond finished speaking, you were lost in thought. "Perhaps this was too much for you right now. You have been traveling so long. I should have waited." You shook your head vehemently.

"No. I needed to know. Thank you, Lord Elrond." Elrond stood with a smile. "You must be tired. I shall have chambers set up for you right away and perhaps you would care to join me for supper?" You rose from your seat and nodded. "That would be wonderful." You face him fully and looked into his dark eyes. The world seemed to freeze, like there was nothing else around and only the two of you existed.

You wanted to ask what it was you were feeling, but couldn't seem to get the words out. This was definitely where the pull was coming from, but how do you explain that to a complete stranger? After what felt like hours, you finally blinked and looked away from him. Elrond walked you to the door where Lindir was still waiting. Lindir lead you away, leaving Elrond behind. He brought his fingers up to his chin and hummed. "Interesting," he thought to himself before returning to his study. It seemed your presence would change things in Rivendell far more than he expected.
