You groaned as you followed the hobbit through the darkness of Mirkwood. Not only were you covered in dirt, sweat and a little bit of blood, your clothes were also coated in thick sticky spider webs. Bilbo had freed you from the spiders as they were about to feast on you, but now you had to free the rest of the Company. As you raced through the forest, you couldn't help but think on everything that had lead you to this moment and what would happen if you were unsuccessful in saving your new found friends.

Several weeks before, you'd somehow fallen in to Middle Earth and met the Company of Thorin Oakenshield. They decided not to leave you in the middle of a place you didn't know, so Thorin allowed you to travel with them. You soon found your niche in the Company as an archer, although you were better at long distance rather than shorter ones, like Kili could do. They still found you helpful and you grew to care for them and Thorin most of all.

"Y/N," Bilbo whispered, catching your attention once again. He pointed upward and you looked to find the rest of the Company wrapped in the same silky webs that had trapped you. You quickly scurried up the trees as gracefully as you could, trying not to slip and to avoid spiders. Soon, webs were being cut and falling down to the forest floor below. You prayed they wouldn't be too mad at you for that.

You carefully climbed back down and started freeing your friends. You couldn't fight the smile as you cut the web to reveal a mildly confused Thorin. "Y/N?" You smiled at him and gave his shoulder a quick back before turning to help Bilbo. You didn't want to stay in physical contact with him for very long, lest you betray your feelings for him. Thorin opened his mouth to ask, but was cut off by the elves appearing and the spiders returning.

You wanted nothing more than to bang your head against the walls of your cell as you waited for news of Thorin. Luckily, you didn't have to wait long before Thorin was escorted to the dungeons by the guards and thrown into a cell. With you. Thorin sank down onto a bench after a short conversation with Balin. You sat down next to him.

"He will come. Bilbo, I mean. He'll come get us all out and then, we can go to Erebor," you spoke softly so the others wouldn't hear you. Thorin's blue eyes stopped scanning the cell walls and landed on your face. "Why are you so certain of this when no one else is?" he asked after a few moments of silence. You shrugged. "I just do," you whispered, tearing your gaze away from his. You didn't want to your eyes show too much.

"I have faith in Bilbo. He will save us and we'll get to Erebor. You will reclaim your homeland and rebuild it. You will make a fine king and one day you'll find a woman worthy enough to be your queen," your voice drifted off as your spoke, hoping Thorin wouldn't hear the bitterness in your voice. You'd been trying to keep your feelings for him deep inside for so long, you knew you'd probably explode if he rejected you.

You heard him shift next to you and then felt his fingers on your chin. "Y/N?" he said, gently turning your head to look at him. He gave you a small, rare smile and asked, "Who is to say I have not found her already?" Your brows furrowed. You had no idea that Thorin had left a lady love behind on his quest. Thorin chuckled at your expression.

"There is no one I could ever find that is more worthy than the woman sitting in front of me now. When we reclaim the mountain as I know we will, I would have no other woman by my side than you." He let go of your chin and you shook your head. "Why? There have to be dozens, hundreds, of woman throwing themselves at your feet to be your queen." Thorin's brow rose. "That may be true, but none of them have what you do. You are strong and courageous, even after falling into a world that is not your own. You are kind and caring and you never falter in your loyalty nor do you hesitate to put me in my place. There will never be another like you."

You felt the tears begin to fall, but Thorin wiped them away. "Please say something, Y/N." Your mind couldn't seem to form the words you wanted, so you did the only logical thing you could think of. You leaned in and kissed him. One of his hands instantly cupped your cheek and the other tangled itself in your hair. He didn't care that you were covered in dirt and grime. Thorin just wanted to be as close to you as possible since he never believed this moment would happen, especially not in an Elvish dungeon.

You pulled back from the kiss and rested your forehead against his. "I love you, Thorin." The tears of joy were falling freely now, making Thorin chuckle softly. "And I you, Y/N. Will you be my queen when I have won the mountain?" You gave him the brightest smile he'd seen from you since you met. "If that's what you want, I certainly won't say no," you quipped, laughing when Thorin smiled back at you.

The two of you spent the rest of your time in Mirkwood as close as possible. Soon, you had escaped and back toward the mountain and to the battle that would change everything. As the battle raged on and you fought side by side with Thorin, you hoped you would both survive. You couldn't lose him now. When the battle was over, you searched frantically for Thorin. You found him lying on the ice, still alive but injured.

You ran over to him and sank down to your knees beside him. You didn't care about the horrible things he'd said to you when he was mad with gold sickness. It didn't matter that you had minor injuries as well. You needed to make certain he was going to be alright. Luckily, he was and, when he healed, Thorin kept his promise and married you. The two of you ruled Erebor happily for many years.
