David looked at Doctor Santos closely.
"What do you mean by release of assistive devices? Is the condition..."
The doctor shook his head. This made David speechless. The middle-aged doctor took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, Mr. Lee, but the patient had been in a coma for ten years. And so far, her condition has never experienced a significant change. Even if to this day the patient is still alive, it is because of the help of a respirator. We, the team of doctors, also can't do anything to make the patient awake."
"B-but all this time you always said..."
"We are always optimistic that patients can regain consciousness. We have done our best. But if God says otherwise, then we can't go against His will," said the Doctor. Then the doctor handed a document in front of him. "We have to seek approval from the family to do so."
David stared blankly at the document.
"You can discuss this with the patient's immediate family. If the family agrees, we will make preparations after this form is returned. However, if the patient's family refuses, we still try to do the best for the patient."
David's eyes narrowed at the doctor's final words. "What do you mean by that?"
"We had to move the patient to another ward. But we will provide services to patients. Or if the family wants, we can also move the patient at home, along with the complete equipment. The hospital will send a nurse who will come every two days to check on the patient's condition and a doctor who will carry out routine checks every week. Again, according to the request of the family."
David felt his body go weak. How can doctors just give up after ten years? They always say that the patient will regain consciousness. But of course, for a long time, even doctors can feel hopeless.
He grabbed the document. Then he looked at the Doctor seriously. "I'll talk about this first to her family."
The doctor then just nodded and excused himself.
Fuck, how can I explain this to Andrew?
*****
Macy noticed the large hall of St. Haven, which will be the location for Andrew's novel launch.
The board of directors turned out to have contacted several vendors for preparation. It looks like the directors of St. Haven were excited for the launch of their VVIP author's novel – even after learning that Writer Coangco himself proposed the location idea for his novel's launch event in St. Haven.
Of course, for St. Haven this was such a good promotional event.
Macy received a new report from the PR, marketing and promotion and advertising departments regarding this event. Even from today the advertising department has been doing their job, judging by the number of advertisements that have been spread in both print media, electronic media and even to social media.
The response was also absolutely amazing.
Gil shows a list of searches on several sites related to Andrew's novels. Honestly, she thought that it was a natural thing.
"Ma'am!" Gil shouted who ran to her who was standing on the side of the main stage of the hall.
"There's news from the printing department."
Macy's eyebrows rose. "What is it? Is there any problem?"
Gil looked a little hesitant before he answered. He took several deep breaths and tried to catch his breath. After he was no longer panting, he spoke again. "The printing department has completed the first quota of Author Coangco's novels. And will begin distribution on Wednesday evenings to major stores in Manila."
