"Say what needs to be said, Director Miller," Macy said.
She was so annoyed with the director in front of her right now. Jared Miller. One of her oldest friends at St. Haven, even if he occupied one of the highest positions at St. Haven. Actually, because of the man, Macy aspired to work at St. Haven and she was very grateful for it.
However, sometimes she was annoyed by the attitude of the almost forty-five-year-old man. Maybe his annoying attitude is because to this day, Jared has not found a person to marry even though his family has repeatedly tried to match him – from women and even to men.
Jared tapped his fingers on the armchair a few times. His expression doesn't look annoying – when his strange attitude is showing – even seems so serious. And Macy really couldn't read what the man was thinking.
"Jared Miller..." Macy called out again.
The tapping of his fingers stopped. "How are you, Macy?"
Macy groaned. Of course, that's just a simple question. She's not a fool but Jared seems to think so. "Stop your small talk, Jared. Say what you want to say so that I can go back to my room and read some drafts."
"You shouldn't be in St. Haven, Macy. You're on leave," said Jared seriously.
"Tell me something that I don't know, Director Miller. And come on, do you really think I can stand a month out of work? And to answer your previous question, I'm fine. The no-laptop ban is still in effect for another week before I return to the hospital for a check-up. Satisfied?" Macy said.
Jared sighed. "You can go on vacation, Macy. Go back to Cebu for a few days or go anywhere else. Japan, Hong Kong, Macao, South Korea, or even America or Europe. Do something you haven't done in years because you're so busy with work."
"I can't go to Cebu if my parents are going to treat me like I'm still their teenage daughter. I am thirty-three years old. And I can't go abroad, Marcus' custody appeal trial isn't over yet," she said quietly. "Ah... and, maybe in the near future there will be a visit from the social service."
Jared's brows furrowed. "Social service visits? Regarding Marcus?"
"That's what my lawyer said. Maybe to see how my work situation is to support Marcus' development. They might as well visit Marcus' school and my house. Hell, at worst they might be interviewing some of the people closest to me."
Jared nodded. "Then the vacation is not the right decision at the moment. But you will still need some days off."
Macy's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?"
"If the social service will come to St. Haven to see your work environment, wouldn't it be better if you act that work is not the most important thing in your life? You yourself said they might interview some people. You can guess what questions they will ask. If you continue to work without ever taking a vacation, will that be good? In this case, Ken has a safe position. He works in the studio and is mostly at home. Even if there is a promotion schedule, it's not even long," said Jared.
And Macy hated the man even more because what he said was true. If at this time, she was so stubborn to keep working even though she got a month off, it wouldn't be good for her.
"Then what should I do for three weeks, eh? Traveling abroad is not an option. Every week, I plan to come to every trial," Macy said.
Jared smiled. Well, Macy is so easy to persuade when it comes to her son. "Like what I said, go for a vacation. To Cebu or any other city. You can go for two or three days before or after the trial. You can release your stress and meet new people on your journey. It will be good for you too."
