Andrew brought Macy a glass of warm tea, while he himself returned to pouring wine into his glass. They were standing on the veranda of the apartment. Enjoying the night breeze and the streets being filled with cars from workers returning to their respective homes.
Macy took a deep breath and took a sip of her tea slowly. "I apologize."
It surprised the writer. And also, Macy.
Hani told her after they talked, she would find out if she needed to apologize to Andrew. But she feels like it's the right time. She realized that her attitude was wrong. Forcing sex on her boyfriend when he refused; it is an act of sexual harassment. Even though they are lovers but both parties must give consent for sexual contact. It must always be mutual.
She glanced at the man who looked at her with his mouth slightly open; it seemed that the apology was too shocking. "I apologize for the other day and today," she said once again.
Andrew wakes up from his shock. He took a slow sip of wine and shook his head. "It's not your fault, Mace."
"Please..." Macy mumbled softly.
Andrew became silent and looked at his lover.
"Don't justify my actions," Macy said as she turned her face away. Her hands felt warm from the tea mug. But her heart felt so heavy when Andrew said that what happened wasn't her fault. "If you don't want sex, then I have to respect it. I acted childish that night and ignored your excuses. I really turned into an antagonist for you"
"But Mace-"
"Listen to me first, okay? After that, I will listen to whatever you have to say."
Andrew took a deep breath. This will be a long conversation. Then his hand reached out and rubbed Macy's arm gently. "At least we can talk inside. It's getting colder."
Macy nodded. The man smiled slightly and walked in. Macy followed behind. Andrew put the wine glass on the coffee table before sitting on the sofa. While his girlfriend sat on the other side still holding the mug. There is a distance between them, but he can understand it. They need to talk to a personal space that makes them comfortable after all these awkward situations.
Macy looked at the tea mug that she was still holding tight in her hand. She started talking again. "You know, I wasn't really expecting sex that night. When I asked, you didn't answer right away," she said quietly.
Andrew watched the woman closely. Like David said, he doesn't really know much about her. So, when his girlfriend starts talking openly like this, he will happily listen to her, without arguing. That was the last thing he wanted.
Macy sighed, then glanced at her lover. "That night, you were talking rambling. Though you can say 'no, Macy. Today we're not going to have sex' strictly. That's much better than you giving a thousand excuses. I can understand the reason that I still need some time to recover, but what irritates me is the way I look at myself. I saw the pity in your eyes that night."
Oh, that's something Andrew didn't expect.
Macy raised her head slowly and looked into the man's eyes. "Yes, you pity me. You do it often, Drew. Without you knowing it. I don't know if David ever told you about it. Even though you didn't mean to do it, the look in your eyes said something else. For a writer who makes frequent observations, you are terrible at realizing it." She pauses a little to take a breath.
"At first, I thought it was okay. In some cases, maybe other people will see me the same way. But it's so annoying when you get the same treatment from your own lover."
