The day starts off with a text from Hiro.
You wouldn't mind stopping by the cafe around three, right?
You text back:
I guess not. Why?
Hiro replies:
It's the weekend and we have a whole stack of videogames to play! We do this every Sunday, ___.
You frown. He didn't forget about your birthday, did he? He hasn't been talking about it. . . and you never brought it up, either. Maybe he did forget. Oh well. Not much you can do about it now. You pull on your favorite outfit and lay around for a while. Just before three, you decide to head out.
The cafe is closed. Huh. That's different. Cass rarely ever closes early. What's going on? The lights are off, the blinds drawn. You open the door and step inside. It's really dark for a minute- then the lights flicker on and you hear, "Happy Birthday!"
You gasp. "Ohmigosh, guys!" Surrounding you, your friends and family stand in a mix of (favorite color) balloons and (second favorite color) streamers. Trays of Aunt Cass's sweets sit on a table next to boxes of (favorite topping) pizza. Liters of soda line the edges of every table. Table cloths are decorated with small pieces of rainbow confetti.
Baymax walks to you and hugs you. "Happy Birthday," He says.
You laugh and pat his arm. "Thanks, buddy."
Honey Lemon snaps a picture of you and Baymax and runs forward to hug you. "Happy Birthday, ___!"
"Thanks. Did you plan this?"
"Nope." Honey Lemon smiles.
"Then-"
"I did," Hiro says awkwardly.
"You did?"
He nods. "Yeah. Happy Birthday, ___."
You throw your arms around him. "Thank you so much, Hiro! You're the absolute best!"
The party starts. Your favorite music plays in the background. Everyone talks and dances and laughs and it's the best day of your life.
Towards the end of the party, you sit with Hiro. "Thanks again," You tell him.
Hiro shrugs. "It's not a big deal. I wanted to make your birthday special."
"You did, Hiro."
"I still have another surprise for you, ___."
"You do?" Hiro nods. "What is it?"
Hiro smiles and takes your hand. He leads you outside, where Baymax is already waiting in his armor. Hiro suits up and says, "How about a quick flight around San Fransokyo?"
"No way," You say. "Really?"
He nods. "Come on, ___."
You board Baymax, gripping his shoulders tightly. He flies off over the crystal blue water. The sky is a soft pink color, streaks of orange lighting it up. Your hair blows gently in the wind. "Wow," You breathe.
"Pretty amazing, huh?" Hiro asks.
"Yeah." You look over at Hiro. "Thank you so much, Hiro. This is the best ever."
"You're very welcome," Hiro says. He kisses your lips softly and wraps an arm around your waist. The two of you lean against each other, watching the sun set. "Happy Birthday, ___." He kisses you again.
