(140): Remember Me (Part One)

It was just after ten, and you were in the car with Wasabi. He chats with you happily, one hand on the steering wheel, the other holding yours. You and your husband of one year were just leaving the restaurant in which you celebrated your first anniversary. The road is slightly slick from the newly falled snow. The night is dark and cold.

"___, I cannot get over how simply beautiful you look tonight," Wasabi says with a smile.

"Aw," You reply. You lean over and kiss his cheek. "Thank you, sweetie."

Wasabi smiles. "I-"

Suddenly, a driver turns onto the wrong side of the road. "Wasabi!" You scream. "Look out!"

Wasabi gasps and turns the wheel. You brace yourself against the seat, eyes wide with terror. The car slams into the rear of your vehicle, the impact causing your vehicle to slam into the metal railing. Wasabi throws his arm out in front of you to protect you from the hard impact of the airbag. Three seconds pass. You're breathing heavy.

Wasabi glances over you, a trickle of blood sliding down his face. "Are you-"

Then another vehicle crashes into yours. You scream in terror before everything goes black.

When you wake, your vision is blurry.

"Ma'am," A voice says. You concentrate on your eyesight. Two paramedics hover over you. The voice is female. "Ma'am, are you alright?"

"Yes," You say, in the faintest of whispers. "W-Where is he?"

"Who, ma'am?"

"My husband."

"Get this one in the ambulance," A male voice orders.

"My husband," You whisper again. "Where is he?"

The paramedic answers, but you're too far under to hear it.

When you come to again, someone is there. They're talking. You groan a little as your body aches to a simple shift in your position. You open your eyes. "Wasabi?" You ask.

"Hey, she's awake!" It's Fred. He walks to your side.

"How are you feeling?" Honey Lemon joins Fred, her hand laying lightly on his shoulder. Go Go follows. So does Hiro.

"Hey, guys," You whisper. "I'm okay."

"Good. You worried us!" Honey Lemon smiles.

"Sorry," You sigh. "How's Wasabi? He's. . . alive, isn't he?"

Hiro nods. "He's alive."

"He's just. . ." Honey Lemon trails.

"Just what?"

"He's in a coma, ___. Don't worry. It won't last long."

You stare at the hospital equipment to your left. Your breathing quickens. You quickly fall into a panic. "He's. . . he's. . ."

"___, calm down," Go Go says.

"Deep breaths," Honey Lemon whispers.

You start crying. You feel so lost, so hopeless. You can't see him. He's somewhere in this hospital, oblivious to the world. What if he never wakes up? What if he leaves you here?

Fred gently hugs your shoulders. "He'll be okay, ___. We're telling you. No worries."

You can't believe that by the look of uncertainty in their eyes.
