Hiro x Reader requested by zookeo.

In this one shot I am totally borrowing the idea of the memory scanner from Meet the Robinsons, so all rights to that invention go to Disney. ^·^
(Unedited).

"I can do this," You say to yourself for the millionth time as the competition begins. You were a science prodigy, teenage genius, and wonderful inventor. It shouldn't be that hard to win this.

If it weren't for one boy, that is.

Hiro Hamada. You hadn't met him, but knew that he would be hard to beat. After all, he did graduate from high school at thirteen, and managed to invent many robots and save the world.

So now you had your doubts. But that was fine. You had this. You could do this. Maybe.

"Everyone say, 'Hiro'!" says a voice from across the room. You turn to see five teens grouped together for a selfie.

"Hiro!" They all say. You frown. You didn't have any friends or family here to support you, but Hiro did.

"Thanks guys," a boy with messy black hair says before jogging off. "See you out there!" His group of friends walk out and Hiro runs right into the cart that holds your invention.

"Watch it!" You shout, scrambling to keep your heavy Memory Scanner in one piece. Hiro falls to the ground and rubs his head.

"I'm so sorry," He says. "I didn't break anything, did I?"

"No, lucky for you." Hiro laughs and shrugs.

"I'm Hiro Hamada," He says, holding a hand out to you.

You nod and take his hand, shaking it. "___."

"Oh. You're the girl who's supposed to be as smart as I am."

"That's right," You say before wheeling your cart off. The announcer on stage announces your name. "Now if you'll excuse me."

"Good luck!" Hiro shouts.

"Thank you," You say.

Now on stage, you take a deep breath. In this huge crowd could be dozens of people who'd want to buy your invention or offer you a scholarship. You could leave this place changed forever if you win. You smile. "Okay. Have you ever sat down, trying to remember something, but you just can't remember it exactly right? Or you want to go back and relive a moment? Well, with this new technology invented by me, you can see whatever you want!" You pick up the headpiece and slide it on. "With this comfortable headpiece, you can finally see your favorite memories!" The screen comes to life and shows everything from waking up on a Christmas morning to find presents under the tree, to spending a day at an amusement park. "Anything you wish to see, you can."

After that, the presentation goes by quickly. The audience claps wildly at the end, and you roll your cart offstage.

"Good job," Hiro whispers before walking on stage himself.

"Ladies and gentlemen- New and improved microbots! Tinier, quicker, and more likely to listen to your commands. Now, I know this is no memory scanner, where you can relive a few minutes of your life that really doesn't need to be remembered, but hear me out." The audience laughs at this and you know.

You lost them.

Suddenly you hate Hiro. Hate him for ruining your chances, hate him for presenting after you, hate him for showing up when he's already set for the future. You hate him.

And you were right. Hiro won, winning money and awards that you needed to get into college. You didn't see him afterwards, just skipped the congratulating part and went straight to putting away your invention. You carried a box out of the now empty presentation room.

"___!" A voice shouts, and you turn to see Hiro running to catch up with you.

"What?" You ask when he reaches you. On the way out of the building you toss your invention in the garbage.

"Hey, what are you doing?" He asks. He reaches in the trash to pick it up and grabs your hand to drag you back into the room. You jerk your hand free from his grasp but stay still. "What's wrong?"

"What's wrong? Hiro, you completely made fun of my invention up there. Now, no one is going to offer me a scholarship or anything. I didn't do this to win like you. I needed to find a way into college and now I don't have a chance."

"___, I'm sorry-" Hiro begins, shaking his head.

"Forget it," You mutter, grabbing the box from Hiro and trying to throw it away.

"But don't throw it away!" He says, and you set it on a table.

"Why not? It's useless." You shake your head. Hiro frowns. He had to make it up to you. He ruined your future. Besides, he kinda had a crush on you.

"Can I try it? He asks.

You stare at him. "I guess," You say, shrugging.

He takes it out and turns it on before putting the headpiece on. In just a minute, the memories begin. First, Hiro and another boy, building robots in the middle of the floor. Hiro eating chicken wings at the table with his family. Hiro smiles, touching the screen where the boy is. "That's my brother, Tadashi."

"You're brother?" You ask, leaning in.

"Yeah," He says, wiping a tear from his cheek. "H-he died in a ... fire."

You look up at him with wide eyes. "Oh, Hiro, I'm sorry."

He looks down at you and smiles sadly. Then the screen changed abruptly. Now it's today, as Hiro walked into the room. The focus is on you. And as he remembers the day, you are never not the focus. Even when he's presenting. Hiro blushes and removes the headpiece.

"Hiro," You whisper.

"I-I really like that invention. Now you know I didn't mean to hurt your future. Ever since I first walked in here all I've noticed is you." Hiro smiles again and you laugh quietly.

"I don't know what to say," You say.

"That's okay," Hiro says, touching your waist gently.

Hiro leans down to kiss you, and you wrap your arms around his neck, smiling against his lips. His hands move to the small of your back and press you closer against him.

You both break away, gasping for air a few seconds later. Hiro smiles and takes your hands. "I have an idea," he says.

"What?" you ask, grinning.

"How would you like to take this to SFIT? This amazing invention could get you in."

"I would love that," You say, and you leave with Hiro, hand in hand.
