(270): Going Away (Part One)

You knock on the door to Tadashi's lab.

"Come in," You hear him say.

You step inside and smile nervously. "Hey, Tadashi. Is this a bad time?"

"Hey, sweetie," He says happily. He sets down the tools he's holding. "Of course it isn't a bad time. I always have time for you." He leans down and kisses you quickly.

"Right," You say. "So, um, I need to talk to you."

Last night, you found out that you were going to have to move back to your hometown. You had been staying with your best friend, Go Go, for almost two years. Now it was time to go back. You've been dating Tadashi for a year.

"Then talk away," He says.

"I. . . I. . ." You swallow. "I'm moving back to (hometown)."

Tadashi freezes. "Wait. You're what?"

"I'm moving," You say.

"When?"

"I have to leave next Tuesday." You shake your head. "Believe me, Tadashi, this isn't what I want."

"Then stay," He says with pleading eyes.

"But it's what my family wants," You finish.

He purses his lips and nods.

"Tadashi, I love you more than anything. And you're the first to know. I just wanted you to decide when we should end this."

"End what?" He asks.

"Us," You say.

Tadashi shakes his head. "What. . . why would we end this?"

"Well . . . because. . . we . . . we're going to be far away from each other. And chances are that once I'm gone, I'm not coming back." You frown. "I'm sorry."

"I don't want this to end," He says quietly. "I love you."

"I-I know and I love you, too. You know that. But I . . . " You shake your head. "This is the most difficult thing I've ever had to do."

"I know," He says. "And I appreciate you telling me first. It means a lot."

You shrug. "You're the first person I thought of." Your eyes fill with tears and you drop your face into your hands. "I'm so sorry."

"Hey," Tadashi says softly. He reaches out for you and pulls you into a hug. "Don't worry about it." He kisses the top of your head.

"Is this it, then?" You whisper brokenly.

Tadashi sighs. "Yeah. Guess so."

You frown. "I'll miss you," You say.

"I'll miss you, too," He whispers.

You pull away. "Alright. I need to go start packing. And I need to tell everyone."

Tadashi looks at the floor and nods. "Okay."

"So I'll see you around?"

Tadashi still doesn't look at you. "Sure."

You nod. "Okay. Bye." You back out of the room. You're fighting tears the whole way home.

When you're gone, Tadashi falls back into his office chair. "Bye," He whispers.
