(298): Not Going (Hiro)

You're walking on the campus of San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, where your best friend and boyfriend goes. You've stopped by a number of times, but only after school hours. It is currently noon, and Hiro would have just left his Advanced Robotics class. You enter the building that holds the labs. When you reach his door, you knock softly.

"Come in," The familiar voice of Hiro Hamada calls.

You gently push on the door and step inside. He glances up from his laptop, where he's typing away on the keyboard. A smile grows on his face and his eyes widen when he sees you.

"Hey, ___. I didn't expect to see you here," he greets. He shuts his laptop and leans back in his chair. "What's up?"

"I wanted to discuss our plans for Halloween," you tell him. You take a seat on the plastic office chair he keeps in the back. "We need to have awesome costumes for trick-or-treating this year. I was thinking that we should have matching costumes. Not like, I be a princess and you be a princess, of course. That would be silly. Like, I be a--"

"Wait, wait, wait," Hiro interrupts to stop your rambling. He shakes his head and laughs. "What makes you think that I'm going to dress up?"

You shrug. "Um, we've done it every Halloween, Hiro. Ever since we were kids."

"Yeah, well, we're not kids." He turns back to his laptop. "I told you last year that I wasn't going to dress up anymore."

"You've said that every year since you were eight," you point out.

"Yeah, well, I mean it now. I'm sixteen. I don't have time for your childish things," he says.

You stand up. "But Hiro-"

"I'm done talking about this, ___," Hiro says, his voice loud with anger. "If you're going to drop it and move on, feel free to stay. If not, please go bother someone else."

As his words hit you hard in the chest, you feel your lip begin to quiver. You stand up and let out a quiet sniffle. Hiro pauses his work and turns to you. The anger and annoyance melts from his eyes when he takes in your expression. You open your mouth and say shakily, "I-I guess I'd better go then."

"___," He says gently. He pushes himself off of his chair. You shove him aside and run out the door. He's frozen in his place. What did he just do? "___, wait! Hold on a second!" He runs after you, but by the time he gets outside of the building, you're already driving away.

Later that day, you're sitting on your sofa, watching your favorite movie. It's been about two hours since your fight with your boyfriend, and you're still hurting.

When there's a knock on your door, you sigh. You have an idea as to who that might be. You get up and walk to your front door. You pull it open and look up into the chocolate brown eyes of Hiro. You don't say anything. You lean against the door frame and wait for him to speak.

"I just came to see that you were okay," he explains, his voice soft. He shakes his head and looks down. "I screwed up. I shouldn't of yelled at you like that. You don't bother me at all." He sighs before continuing, "I'm just sorry. I wanted to give you these." He holds his hand out and you see two plastic bags hanging from the black hangers. The label reads the name of your favorite Disney princess. "She's your favorite, right?" You don't respond, so Hiro continues, anyways. "I also got her prince, because you're my princess, and I figured that we should match. Without the matching tiaras, you know?"

You smile and look down.

Hiro leans forward and hooks a finger underneath your chin. "Can you forgive me?" You look up into his eyes and nod. He lets out a sigh of relief. He leans in and presses his lips to yours softly, waiting for you to respond. You close your eyes and throw your arms around his neck, running your left hand through his hair. He slowly pulls away and smiles. "Shall we try our costumes on, Princess?"

You giggle and open your door. "We shall," you say, hooking your arm through his. You smile up at Hiro, kissing him once more.
