I'll be posting twice today since it's nearly Valentine's Day. (YIKES!)

-

Valentine's Day. Normally, you'd be sitting on your sofa with bags of snacks and empty cans of soda surrounding you while you cry at some sad romantic movie, but today, you think something else will be happening.

You recently became super close to one of your already close friends, Wasabi. To be honest, you never expected to fall in love with him. He always complained about something, he spent a majority of his time cleaning, and his annoyance at Fred made you angry.

Still, there was something about the way he looked at you. He looked at you as if there wasn't anything he'd rather keep his eyes on. He looked at you in a way that made you feel beautiful, feel important, and that is what made you start to fall. You began to find joy in what he found joy in. You spent your time learning how to "properly clean", which resulted in a lot of laughter and good memories for both of you. You learned to appreciate his love of wasabi on his sushi, you learned to appreciate his system, and you learned to appreciate his entire being. He wasn't just some crazy, serious, obsessed neat-freak, he was a kind, hilarious, and determined person that stole your heart.

Now it's Valentine's Day, and you're shocked to find yourself caring about your appearance. Something inside of you is just telling you that he's going to ask you to be his Valentine today. So you leave your hair down, wear one of your sweaters that he once complimented, and even put on a bit of makeup that Honey Lemon once recommended. You look nice, so you quickly pack up your backpack and head out.

Everyone seems to be in a really good mood today. People are handing out chocolates, roses, and paper valentines. Your heart is swelling at the amount of love in the room.

"___," you hear that familiar voice say. Wasabi waves at you from his lab, where he is pulling his rubber gloves off. He dispenses the gloves in a trashcan underneath his table.

You wave back. You quickly walk to him and cross the caution line without a thought. He only let you cross the line that was used to keep "Fred's and Hiro's out of his space". You take a seat on his stool and grin. "Good morning, Wasabi."

He gazes down at your face and outfit. He swallows thickly and says, "You - You look... you look nice today."

"Thank you," you say happily.

"Any plans for today?" he questions, turning back to his desk. He pulls out a fresh pair of rubber gloves.

Your heart skips a beat. This is it. "Um, not really," you answer. "I usually just watch movies at home."

"Oh," he says, "that sounds fun."

You wait for him to say more, but he doesn't. The silence drags on for three minutes before you say, "Right. So, do you have plans for today?"

"Studying," he says.

"That's it?" you press on, hoping for a sign.

He glances over at you and shakes his head. "Um, no, why?"

Your heart sinks. He isn't going to ask you. You fight back the tears and slide off of the stool. "No reason. I'll - I'll talk to you later, Wasabi," you grumble. You turn away and walk off without another word.

You can hardly hold the tears in. What have you been doing wrong? All of that flirting that happened, all of those compliments, all of those times when you were sure that you were going to kiss him in a moment of pure sweetness. Did those moments mean nothing to him? Were they nothing but you overreacting in your head? You don't even turn to your lab. Instead, you start towards the exit doors.
