Day 246
Saturday 29th April 2017 15:47

What a day! I made a complete knob of myself!

I managed to snoop around Roger's chalet and found something a bit concerning. I knocked on his door and he seemed surprised but uncomfortable to see me; probably because I saw him staring at the kids on the beach yesterday. Creepy little weirdo. "Luke," he said, looking nervous and with his bottom lip quivering, "What can I do for you?" "Can I have a chat with you?" I asked. "Err . . . well . . . yes," hesitated Roger. He looked at me and waited for me to start talking. "Can I come in?" I asked. Roger reluctantly let me in, I entered the living room and sat on one of the sofas. Roger sat opposite me and waited for me to speak. "Can I have a cup of tea?" I asked. "Yes of course," said Roger, "Where are my manners." He stood up, entered the kitchen and began the tea making process. As the kettle started boiling and the mugs started clinking, I quickly stood up and started looking around Roger's living room. I looked behind the sofas, under the cushions and in the drawers. I don't know what I was expecting to find; a copy of 'Paedos Weekly' perhaps? I ran over to the sideboard, opened the drawer and found an envelope inside. The flap wasn't sealed so I lifted it up and found a small collection of photos within. I looked through the photographs and they were all of Roger with a young boy who looked about eight. They weren't sexual or anything but this felt creepy. Some of the photos were of Roger and the boy hugging each other on a beach with their tops off. This made me think of when I saw Roger on the beach yesterday. I heard him completing the tea making process, so I put the photos back, shut the drawer and quickly returned to the sofa. As Roger sat on the sofa and offered me the tea I was pondering if I should challenge him about what I'd just seen. I decided to say nothing until I'd had time to ponder on things a bit more. "So, what can I do for you?" asked Roger. Now I had to come up with an excuse as to why I was there. I had no idea what I was going to say. "Well . . . err . . . I . . . . err," I said coming across like a complete lunatic. As I was stumbling over my words I noticed Roger giving me a strange look. "Oh, I know!" I exclaimed, feeling excited I'd come up with something to say, "I wanted to say sorry about yesterday." "Sorry?" queried Roger. "Yeah," I said, "I saw you looking at the kids playing on the beach. I realised afterwards that I might have given you a bit of a rude look, accidentally of course. It must have been the sun. I just wanted to say sorry." "Oh don't worry about," said Roger, "I didn't really notice." What a load of cr*p, I thought to myself. "Really?" I said, "I thought you looked a bit . . ." "A bit what?" asked Roger. "Well, a bit upset," I said. "Oh no," said Roger with a smile on his face, "You've nothing to worry about but I appreciate you coming round." "Oh, I know what I wanted to ask you," I said, "What did you think Debra meant when she arrived the other day? You know, when she told one of us to stay away from her." "Well I'm not sure," said Roger, "I got the impression that she knows one of us." "That's what I thought," I said, "One of us has upset her. Who do you think it could be?" "I have no idea," said Roger, "Why are you so interested?" "I suppose I'm just nosey," I said with a fake giggle. The conversation continued and I got a strong feeling that Roger was acting shifty and trying to hide something.

Later on I decided to speak to Naomi and tell her everything. Initially, she thought I was getting the wrong end of the stick but when I told her about my conversation with Debra, noticing Roger looking at the kids on the beach and what I'd found in Roger's sideboard drawer, she seemed just as concerned as me. "OK," said Naomi, "This does sound a bit dodgy. Why didn't you talk to me after you'd spoken to Debra?" "Well Debra was all secretive and cryptic so I thought I needed to do some digging," I said, "She could have been talking to anyone in that infirmary." "Are you saying that you thought anyone in that room – including me – could have been a child abuser?" "Well, when you put it like that it sounds bad," I said. "That's because it is!" snapped Naomi. "Look, it's obviously the creepy vicar Roger isn't it?" I said, "If we can get Debra to actually SAY it was Roger then that'll be all we need to tell Dump and get him away from the kids." "Well what are we meant to do now?" asked Naomi. "You need to get friendly with Debra," I said. "What?!" exclaimed Naomi. "Come on," I said, "If you get matey with her she might open up to you a bit more than she did to me. All women together and all that." "Luke," said Naomi, "Just because we've both got vaginas doesn't mean she's automatically going to share her deepest, darkest and most uncomfortable thoughts about how her kid was abused." "Just try," I said, "Take Amelia with you. It'll soften her up. Come on, we can't let a paedo run around here with all the kids about." Naomi told me she'd try to get what she could out of Debra but that I shouldn't expect miracles.
