Day 381
Monday 11th September 2017 18:17

I'm still in this cave with Mia acting all weird.

I've been trying to have a conversation with her but it's been like talking to a robot. "I'm not a prisoner here am I?" I asked. "Of course you're not," said Mia, "You can leave whenever you want. I just don't think it's a good idea you leave until you've rested some more. Besides, you'll need my help to squeeze through the caves with your broken arm. It wasn't easy getting you in here in the first place." "Well the others will be worried about me," I said. "Others?" said Mia. "Yeah," I said, "You know – the others." "What others?" asked Mia. "The others!" I exclaimed, "You know the others; Naomi, TJ, Trudy, Mike – the others!" Naomi turned to her left and frowned with confusion. "Naomi?" said Mia, with a pondering look on her face, "TJ? Trudy? Mike? Yeah . . ." "What's up with you?" I asked, "You're acting like you can't remember them. You can't forget TJ and his exaggerated stories, or Trudy gobbing off all of the time." "Trudy's the one who had children isn't she? Twins?" said Mia, acting like she was trying to recall information. "Yes!" I emphasized, "You know that. You were there when they were born." "I was there when they were born," said Mia. "Hang on," I said, "Are you asking me or telling me? I can't tell." There was a short pause as Mia looked ahead for a moment. She then changed the subject. "I'll go out soon and get some more food," she said. "I don't get it," I said, "The last time I saw you, you'd never go out there on your own, and leaving without a weapon is really dangerous." "Incorrect," said Mia, "It's not dangerous for me." "What's so special about you?" I asked. Mia gave me a serious look and stayed quiet. "There's something you're not telling me," I said. "What do you think I'm not telling you?" asked Mia. "Well if I knew that I wouldn't be sat here wondering," I said, "Something's happened to you and I reckon it's got something to do with ACROBAT. You either can't tell me or you won't tell me and I can't figure out which it is, or why?" Mia gave me another blank and emotionless look. The silence lingered for a while longer until I said something. "You know Troy died," I gently said. Mia's face didn't alter. "He was shot," I said, "In fact he was shot a load of times. I was there. It was awful." I could see Mia was unaffected by my story. "Don't you care!?" I loudly said, "Troy was your friend!" "Friend?" said Mia sounding confused. "Yes," I firmly said, "What's wrong with you? He died. Naomi did it. It was all ACROBAT's fault. Troy's dead. Do you understand? He's dead." "It's sad when people die isn't it?" said Mia, "We all have to try and maintain and look after human life. There's nothing more precious than that now." "Yeah but Troy wasn't just someone who got killed," I said, "He was your friend." "Are you hungry?" asked Mia, changing the subject. "What?" I said sounding annoyed. "I asked if you were hungry?" said Mia. "Yeah, I know what you said" I said. "Then why are you asking me what I said?" asked Mia. "Oh for crying out loud," I said, "Mia, a lot has happened since I last saw you and you don't seem to care. Not only has Troy died but Mary's back with us. She's changed too. She's a proper hard faced cow. I thought she was going to kill me and Mike at one point. You're acting like you don't care." Mia turned round and started cleaning up empty bottles of water. Her behaviour was really concerning me – especially when she didn't seem to care when I told her Troy was dead.

Just before Mia left looking for more food I started talking about me leaving the caves. "I think you'll be OK to leave tomorrow morning," said Mia, "You'll need to take it easy though. I'll give you some antibiotics before you leave." "Aren't you going to come with me?" I asked. "I don't understand," said Mia. "Well once we get out of these caves you're going to stay with me aren't you?" "Why would I stay with you?" asked Mia. "Err . . .  so you can come back with us," I bluntly said. "Back?" said Mia sounding confused. "Yes," I insisted, "Back with me and the others – back with your friends." "Friends?" said Mia. "Yes, friends!" I loudly exclaimed, "Come on. I mean you're not really going to stay down here on your own are you?" "No," said Mia, "I try not to stay in one place too long. I keep moving on. I'll leave when you do." "So are you saying that when we leave here you're not going to come with me?" I said. "That's right," said Mia. "Why don't you want to come with us?" I said, "We've been together all this time – and after everything we've been through." Mia started to leave saying she was going to look for more food. I felt like I was being ignored and that my words were being dismissed. This made me angry. "You stay there!" I loudly said in an aggressive tone. Mia stopped, turned around and looked at me. "You're not going anywhere!" I snapped, "Now I've had enough of all this. We're going to sit down and talk about this." "Talk about what?" said Mia sounding confused. "This!" I shouted, "You acting like a bl**dy weirdo!" "I don't understand," said Mia. "Oh for God's sake!" I snapped, "This isn't you. It doesn't make any sense. I can't just go and leave you!" "Why not?" asked Mia. "Because you can't look after yourself," I said. "Yes I can," said Mia. "Why don't you want to come with us!?" I asked. "I don't need to come with you," said Mia. "What do you mean NEED?" I snapped. "It means there's no necessity," said Mia, "Your injuries are starting to heal, your broken bone will be fixed in about six weeks and I'll give you some antibiotics before you leave. There's no need for us to stay together." "God!" I said, sounding annoyed, "OK, well forget about need, let's talk about want. I want you to come back with us." "Why?" asked Mia. "Isn't it obvious!?" I exclaimed. "No," said Mia. She stared at me with a blank and empty look. I rolled my eyes and slumped back. I didn't have the energy. "Right," I said, "Do you know what? I don't have the energy. In fact I don't care. If you don't, why should I? Just go and get some food." Mia exited the cave and I was left feeling frustrated.

I don't know what I'm going to do about Mia. I don't know what I can do about Mia. It looks like she isn't going to come back with me to the others. What the Hell has happened to her!?
