Day 254
Sunday 7th May 2017 23:57Naomi and I managed to speak to Mary today. She explained everything.
Over the public address system, Dump announced that Roger was now quarantined in an undisclosed part of Dumpville. He explained that he would be speaking to all residents in Triton's tomorrow and explaining why the vicar was now separated from everyone. Most people know what's gone on with Roger and Sophie. John and Yvonne have told everyone. It's what's gone on with Mary and Debra's son that no one knows about, but after yesterday, I think Debra's going to be telling everyone.
Mary told us that the whole thing happened early last year. She said Debra's son, Toby was part of the church youth group she used to run. "They'd all come after school and college, and chill out; play pool, that sort of thing," said Mary, "Toby was having trouble at home with his parents. He used to talk to me about how they argue about all the trouble he used to get into. After a while he started being a bit. . . Flirty with me." "Flirty?" questioned Naomi. "You know; saying my hair looked nice and that I had good skin and that I was quite a good looking woman," said Mary, "I suppose I felt flattered." "Flattered!?" exclaimed Naomi, "He was fourteen." "And you were married," I said. "He looked a lot older," said Mary desperately trying to defend herself, "He certainly acted older. He told me he was eighteen." "How can you think a fourteen year old is eighteen?" asked Naomi. "Like I said, he looked older," said Mary, "I had no reason to believe he wasn't fourteen." "We saw the photo that Mary showed us yesterday," said Naomi, "He was in his school uniform for Christ's sake. He did NOT look fourteen." There was a moment of silence. It was obvious Mary didn't know what to say. "Anyway," she continued, "Me and Ian were having lots of problems with our marriage. He was working too much, as usual and I was feeling . . . Well I suppose I was feeling rejected, unloved and unwanted. Toby was a handsome man." "He was a fourteen year old child!" Naomi loudly said. "I've told you," said Mary, "I thought he was eighteen. I really did." "Even if he was eighteen that's still weird," I said, "How old are you? Fifty?" "I'm in my late forties," said Mary. "Sorry," I said, "But that is weird." "It's not illegal," said Mary, "The relationship started with me thinking he was an adult." "The relationship!?" exclaimed Naomi, "Do you mean the abuse?" "I just don't get why a fourteen year old boy would want to have sex with a woman in her late forties," I said. "Well," Mary tentatively said, "I didn't tell the truth about my age. I told him I was in my mid-thirties." "You both lied about your age!?" exclaimed Naomi, "This is unbelievable." "I didn't want to cause any harm," said Mary, "I really didn't. I'm not a paedophile or a child sex offender. That's ridiculous. I didn't abuse Toby. We made love. It was beautiful. He wanted things to happen just as much as I did. I didn't make him do anything he didn't want to do." Naomi stood up and quickly slapped Mary hard across the face. I jumped back in shock not knowing what to say. "You hypocrite," said Naomi, "You walk around here, looking down your nose at everyone, hiding behind your religion, thinking you're shielded by your Bible and looked after by God but you're nothing but a two faced sanctimonious child abuser." "I didn't abuse him!" shouted Mary. "He was fourteen!" yelled Naomi, "You abused your position and you abused him. Listen to yourself. Sat there trying to justify things and defend yourself. Don't think because you're a woman it's OK. If you were a man and Toby was a girl how would that be?" Mary squirmed and looked uncomfortable. "Exactly," said Naomi, "Your face says it all." There was a short pause. "I didn't set out to hurt anyone," said Mary. "What about your husband, Ian?" I asked. "Well he wasn't happy," said Mary, "But I sought forgiveness from God and both he and Ian eventually forgave me." "So that's OK then is it?" snapped Naomi, "What about Debra? What about the kid?" "Toby was fine," said Mary, "He wasn't harmed nothing bad happened to him." "Debra said you tore her family apart," says Naomi. "That's not true," said Mary, "She was the one who started shouting and screaming!" "Of course she started shouting and screaming!" yelled Naomi, "You abused her son!" "I've told you," said Mary, "I thought he was eighteen." "You made him keep secrets and lie to his family," snapped Naomi, "That's typical paedophile behaviour." Mary explained that some of the other youth group members noticed how close she and Toby were getting and that's when they started making comments. The comments escalated, rumours started spreading and it all got back to Debra. "That's when I found out he was fourteen," said Mary, "I was so shocked." "Well if you can lie about your age, I guess he can lie about his," said Naomi. "Debra wasn't happy," continued Mary, "She asked why I had such a keen interest in her son. She was very hostile. I just said that I was fond of him." "So once you knew he was fourteen did you stop having sex with him?" I asked. Silence fell and Mary hung her head which clearly answered my question. "You're unbelievable," said Naomi, "Sitting there telling us you thought he was eighteen when you still have sex with him when you know he's fourteen." "It was only once or twice. It wasn't like before. We knew we shouldn't be doing it," said Mary. "But you DID do it!" shouted Naomi, "People like you make me sick! You knew he was a child. You had sex with a child. You're a child abuser." "How can it be abuse!?" shouted Mary, "It's what he wanted. I've told you he looked older and behaved older." "You knew he was fourteen!" shouted Naomi, "You should be ashamed of yourself." "I've told you," said Mary, "I sought forgiveness and confessed my sins. I'm truly sorry for any pain I've caused but I really didn't mean to and I was going through a tough time." "My heart bleeds," Naomi sarcastically said. I asked Mary when Debra found out. "Toby told her," she said, "She got the police involved, told Ian and stopped Toby coming back to the youth group. The police arrested me and interviewed me. I was on bail when the outbreak happened." Naomi was giving Mary evil looks. "You can think what you want of me Naomi but the only one who can judge me is God." "Wrong," said Naomi, "Anyone and everyone can judge you, especially the parents of the kids you look after at Kids Club. A self-confessed child sex offender should not be left alone to look after a group of children and I'm disgusted that Dump knew about this and allowed it." "Please," pleaded Mary, "Don't do anything that's going to get me removed from the Kids Club. I love it there." "I bet you do," said Naomi, "I'm going to see Dump and I'm going to tell him he needs to quarantine you." "No," said Mary in a panic, "Please don't. I love my job. I'd never do anything to those kids." Naomi stood up. "I'm going to go speak to him now," she said. As Naomi started to walk off Mary stopped her. "If you tell him to quarantine me I'll tell him Amelia isn't your baby," said Mary. Naomi stopped, slowly turned around and gave Mary a vicious stare. "You evil b*tch," said Naomi with venom in her voice. She started to throw herself at Mary in preparation for a full on fight but I grabbed her and managed to stop her. "Stop it!" I shouted as I tightly grabbed hold of Naomi's waist, "This isn't going to help." "You two are not in charge around here, Mr Dump is," said Mary, "And he has decided I can stay and run the kids club so that's it, whether you like it or not!" Naomi again tried to go for Mary but I stopped her. "Mary!" I angrily yelled, "You're not helping! Just shut up!" "I mean it," said Mary, "Everyone's got secrets and I'll tell them all to Mr Dump if you tell him to quarantine me. I'll tell him about Amelia not being your baby, about DeShawn's cross dressing, about Esther killing her secret lover, about Trudy killing that Nun, Lindon and his disgusting necrophilia, and of course Luke and TJ sending Mike away." At this point I wanted to release Naomi and let her rip off Mary's face. I was shocked an angered at the lengths she was prepared to go to, to keep her secret and stay in Dumpville. Her attitude and threatening behaviour was really p*ssing me off too "You're not very clever are you, Mary?" I said, "You know I sent Mike away, so how quickly do you think I'll do the same to some child abuser like you?" "I'm not a child abuser!" shouted Mary. "Yes you are!" screamed Naomi. There was a short pause. "Mary," I said, "We can't leave you around children after all this, no matter what you say." "It's not your decision," said Mary. "We're making it our decision," said Naomi. "Dump's going to have to listen to us," I said, "The way I see it Mary, you've got two choices. Option one, stay here in quarantine, away from parents who are inevitably going to find out what you did - especially after yesterday, or option two, leave Dumpville and go outside and take your chances. If I were you I'd take option one. There's slightly less chance of you being killed in here than out there." "I'm not so sure about that," said Naomi. "It's a death sentence either way," said Mary, "Why can't we just forget about all of this and go back to how things were?" "Forget about it!?" exclaimed Naomi, "Are you off your head? We can't forget about it. Every time I see you near a kid I'm going to be worried." "And it's a matter of time before people find out," I said, "After yesterday I don't think Debra cares who knows." "I think we should go and see Dump right now and sort this out," said Naomi.
