Day 257
Wednesday 10th May 2017 19:52

Well I found out what John's proposition was. Not what I was expecting!

John and I were on the beach playing with Sophie and making sandcastles with her. It was nice to see her laughing and enjoying herself. Sophie went paddling into the sea leaving me with John. "It's nice to see her happy," said John, "She's still having trouble sleeping you know. We've told her she's not going to see Roger again but she knows he's here somewhere." "I suppose it'll take time," I said, "She'll be OK." "Not as long as that pervert's here," said John with anger in his voice, "I want him gone." "I suppose you could speak to Dump about getting him chucked out," I said, "People aren't over the moon about a paedophile being kept here in an unknown place and being looked after." "I meant a different type of 'gone'" said John. I frowned. "What do you mean?" I asked. "I want him dead," said John. My eyes widened in surprise. I wasn't expecting that. "Dead?" I said, "Well . . . I . . . err . . . I . . ." I didn't how to respond to John. From the tone of his voice he was deadly serious. "I don't think Dump's going to authorise Roger being killed," I said. "I know," said John, "That's why I'm going to do it." My eyes widened even further. "That's what I wanted to talk to you about," said John, "I want you to help me find out where they're keeping Roger and help me kill him." "You what?!" I exclaimed, "Are you mad?" "Come on, Luke," said John, "You've been out there, you're used to killing people. I've been in here ever since this whole thing started. I need your help." "To kill a vicar?!" I yelled. "To kill a paedophile," said John, "After what he did to my little girl, I want him dead. Sophie's struggling to sleep, and she still feels scared. If I tell her Roger's gone and he's gone for good, things might start getting back to normal." "Normal?" I said, "You're talking about getting me to help you kill someone and you're talking about things being normal. Would you have wanted to kill Roger if this happened before the outbreak?" "That's my point," said John, "We live in a different world now. There're no courts to make Roger answer for his crimes and there's no legal system in place to make him face justice so I'll make him face justice." "By killing him?" I said. "Yes," said John, firmly, "He abused my daughter for God's sake. I can't just sit here and make sandcastles while he's somewhere in this park being fed and watered. Please Luke, I've never killed anyone. I need your help." "I'm not some professional hitman for hire you know," I said, "Anyone I've killed, I've had to kill, mainly because they were infected, about to turn or they threatened me. I've never made plans to kill anyone. This is crazy." "Aren't you going to help me?" asked John. "No!" I exclaimed, "Of course I'm not." "But I REALLY need your help," said John, "You work near Dump's office so you might be able to find out where they're keeping Roger and once I've killed him I need to cause some sort of trauma to his head don't I? I don't know how to do that. I've never done it before. I need your help." "Forget it," I said, "You obviously haven't thought about this. I mean, could you actually kill another person?" "He abused my little girl," said John, "I can kill him. I just need to find him." "And then what?" I asked, "You kill him and he either a) comes back infected and kills you or b) the soldiers find out what you've done and they quarantine you from your wife and daughter. What good will you be to anyone then?" "I'm doing this, Luke," said a determined John. "Well I'm sorry, John," I said, "I can't help you." "You mean you won't help me," he said. "I don't want to get involved in any trouble," I said, "And I don't want to run around killing paedo vicars. Just be happy that he's quarantined and separated from us all." "I'm not happy," said John, "And I'm doing this with or without your help." Sophie then returned, and John and I returned to playing with her. We said nothing more about the subject but we exchanged awkward looks.

John's desire to kill Roger has been on my mind all day. Part of me thinks he's mad but another part of me understands why he wants Roger dead, especially if Sophie is still scared. I just hope he comes to his senses and doesn't find Roger and kill him. It'll only make matters worse. Maybe I should talk to Yvonne.

The sergeants who went out looking for Dobbs still haven't returned. I know there's a better atmosphere around here without them but I hope they're still alive.
