Day 361
Tuesday 22nd August 2017 22:21The last 48 hours have been horrific, resulting in high anxiety levels and a shocking death. I feel really tense and on guard at the moment. I have no idea where I am.
I woke up yesterday morning and walked into the living room to find TJ guarding Shaun. I say 'guarding' he was actually asleep on the sofa. I walked over to him and shoved him on the shoulder. He quickly woke up with a start. "No Angelina, don't put it up there," he said with a jolt. "Dreaming about Angelina Jolie?" I asked, "Well that's the only way you'll ever get close to her. In a dream." "Whatever, Nanna," said TJ, "I told you before about how I helped her out with her celebrity babies." "TJ, shut up," I said, pointing at Shaun, "You were meant to be guarding him and instead you're asleep." "Alright Nanna, don't get your Tena Lady in a twist," said TJ, "No one died." "But someone might," I said, "That's why we're taking these shifts."
When the others woke up we all talked about what our next move was going to be. "We don't need to do anything," said Courtney, "If that beepy box thing was giving off some sort of signal then the other ACROBAT people would have already been here wouldn't they?" "Not necessarily," said Mike, "They could be watching us right now. Staking the joint." "I don't think we can get complacent," I said, "We need to stay on guard. Maybe we should leave this place?" This suggestion didn't go down well. "Leave?" said a worried Courtney, "Where would we go?" "I'm not leaving," said Troy, "It's safe here. There's food. I've got my own room. I'm not going anywhere." "Mike's right," said TJ, "ACROBAT people could still be watching us. It might be dangerous to leave. Luke, you did just say we shouldn't get complacent." "Yeah but we can't stay in here forever," I said, "The food won't last. If we go, we can leave Shaun here and find somewhere else to stay." "Where else will be as good as this place?" said Troy, "We haven't had any trouble with infected since we've been here." "We can't travel with four dogs and two babies," said TJ, "It's too dangerous." "We should just stay here," said Mike, "If those ACROBAT f*ckers come here we'll rip 'em apart like lions – ferocious lions. Fight to the death." "I don't think any of us want to fight," I said. "We might have to if more of those ACROBAT piggies come here and try to kill us," said Mike. "Yeah but why would they want to kill us?" I asked, "Who are we to them? It just doesn't make any sense." "If they do come here we should just give Shaun back to them," said Courtney, "That might be the end of it." "Get a grip teenage dirt bag," said TJ, "If they DO come here and we hand Shaun over they're not just going to leave it at that. They'll definitely be p*ssed of with us for killing one of their men and kidnapping another." "You two morons did that," Courtney said, pointing at Mike and TJ. "Well if they come here we just have to fight," said Mike, "We'll look like a right set of clowns if we don't." "Look, are we going to this circus or what?" asked Auntie Meryl. There was a confused pause. "What circus?" I asked. "The circus you've all been talking about," said Auntie Meryl. "We haven't been talking about a circus," I said. "Yes you have," said Auntie Meryl, "Acrobats, lions, clowns. What else would you be talking about?" We ignored Auntie Meryl and continued talking. The decision was made to stay put but remain cautious.
Shortly after the discussion Mike said we needed more supplies for the twins; nappies etc. that sort of thing. Mike and TJ said they'd go out on a run and return with what we needed. I told them both to be careful and remain alert. I reminded them that the last time they went out they returned with Shaun. "Don't worry, Nanna," said TJ, "Me and big brother can look after ourselves. You just look after my little Hulk and Wolverine." "I'm coming too," said Courtney, "I'm sick of staying in here." I told Courtney that I thought she would be better off staying here with me, Troy, Auntie Meryl and the twins. "F*ck that," said Courtney, "I'm sick of being stuck inside." "Look," I firmly said, "We've had enough stress recently. You're staying here and that's that." "Err . . . you're not my Dad," said a stroppy Courtney, "You might have boobs but you're not my Mum either. I can do what I want. Melt." "Melt?" I said, sounding confused, "You want me to melt?" "God you're so lame," said Courtney, "Don't you know what melt means?" "Yes," I said, "It means when something solid slowly turns to a liquid." "God," said Courtney, "And you wonder why we call you Nanna. Look, I'm going out with Mike and TJ and that's that." We bickered for a while longer but Courtney's mind was made up. I couldn't stop her and I guess I know that she can look after herself, certainly better than Troy can. Mike, TJ and Courtney grabbed their rucksacks, gathered their weapons, got in the jeep and they were off. "Do you think they'll be alright?" asked Troy, "Look what happened last time they went out." "They came back alive," I said, "I'm sure they'll come back alive in a few hours. They know what they're doing and where they're going so they won't be too long."
