Day 382
Tuesday 12th September 2017 22:47Well I'm back with the others but getting here was a bit stressful. I also saw something very out of the ordinary.
In the morning Mia told me about how, yesterday, when she was out looking for food she came across the partially destroyed ACROBAT base. "Well hang on," I said, "That base is the best part of an hour away from here by car. How did you manage to get there?" "By car," Mia plainly said. "What? You've just a car parked around the corner have you?" Mia produced a set of car keys, gave me a blank look and said "Yes." "Oh, OK," I said sounding a bit shocked, "I didn't expect that. Mind you, I suppose you do know how to drive now don't you? Anyway I can't imagine you saw anything interesting at the ACROBAT base," I said, "It's been blown up." "Not all of it has," said Mia, "The main gates have been secured and it looks like the agents have moved out of the part that's been destroyed and into the parts that are still intact." "You mean the whole base isn't completely destroyed?" I asked. "No," said Mia, "The place is massive. Anyway I saw Seth." My eyes lit up and I moved to the end of my stone slab. "Seth!" I excitedly exclaimed, "You saw Seth! Are you sure?" "Yes," said Mia, matter-of-factly, "It was him." "Are you REALLY sure?" I said. "I watched through the fence at the back of the compound," said Mia, "They referred to him by name. I saw them moving him from one building to another. I suppose they've moved lots of people around what with a section of the facility now being in ruins." "This is great!" I loudly and joyfully exclaimed, "It means Goyle was lying to Mary and to the rest of us. We can get Seth back and he can help us get to City One." "Well from what I saw he didn't look like he was in a fit state to help get anyone anywhere." "What do you mean?" I asked. "He looked weak," said Mia, "Really weak. I'm not sure how much use he'd be to you. He looks different. I wasn't sure if it was him at first." "It doesn't matter," I said, "Now that we know he's there we have to get him back." I told Mia that I wanted to go across the beach, up the stairs and get back to Dumpville but she convinced me that it would be safer to drive back to Kwik Fit. I was worried that the bikers might have taken Naomi and the others hostage in Dumpville but after speaking to Mia I thought it was best to go back to Kwik Fit and tell the others rather than tackling the bikers on my own with a broken arm.
Mia brought me a clean change of clothes, I grabbed my belongings and she helped me make my way out of the caves. It was bl**dy difficult with my bruises. Climbing up and under various crevasses with my broken arm also made the journey to the surface quite problematic, not to mention painful. We climbed out of the caves, over the rocks and got into Mia's car which was a clapped out old banger parked in a lay-by. Mia sat behind the wheel and put my broken arm in a sling as I sat in the passenger seat. "Just make sure you rest that arm," said Mia. "Well, all being well I shouldn't be climbing through any more caves," I said, "That should make things easier. Anyway, come on let's go. Kwik Fit's a short drive away from here."
As we drove back to Kwik Fit I was asking Mia if she'd had any more thoughts on joining the rest of us. Before we had a chance to carry the conversation on I gasped and jolted back as I saw a huge – and I mean HUGE – mass of infected, covering the road about five hundred metres in front of us. There must have been about a hundred of the gruesome undead blocking our path. "Oh God," I said, "That's the road we need to go down. Quick, back up. We'll have to find another way around." Mia applied the brakes and put the gear stick into reverse but the car then made a strange scratching sound. "What's that?" I said, sounding worried. The car then came to a grinding halt in the middle of the road about four hundred metres away from the infected. "What is it? What's going on?" I said as my worry increased. "It could be a number of things," said Mia, "The cambelt may have snapped, the alternator is probably faulty and that's likely to have caused the battery to go flat. It's a very old car." "Well what are we going to do!?" I loudly exclaimed, sounding panicked. "Well I suppose we'll have to walk," Mia said casually. "Walk!?" I loudly exclaimed, "Are you mad?" "No I am not mad," Mia plainly said. "Well you must be blind," I exclaimed, "Look in front of you, there's hundreds of infected there. Have you got a death wish?" "No I do not have a death wish," said Mia, "And I have perfect vision." Mia opened the car door and looked at me. "Come on," she said. Mia exited the car and started casually walking towards the infected. I looked on in horror. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I wound the window down and stuck my head out. "Mia, what are you doing!?" I called to her, "They'll rip you apart." "It'll be OK," Mia calmly said, "Come on." The infected had now noticed Mia and they started running towards her. "Mia for God's sake!" I shouted, "Get back here!" "I'd get out of the car and join me if I were you," said Mia. I quickly exited the vehicle, ran towards Mia and grabbed her arm. "What the f*ck are you doing?" I aggressively snapped, "Are you trying to get yourself killed?" "No," Mia, simply said. "Get back in the car!" I snapped. "Please let go of my arm," said Mia, "I am only trying to help you." "You're trying to get me killed," I exclaimed, "You're trying to get us both killed. There's a big skip over there. We can hide behind that. Come on." "We don't need to hide," said Mia. I looked ahead and saw that the infected were getting closer. I was starting to get REALLY scared. "Mia, please," I begged, "We can't stay here." "Yes we can," said Mia. "No we can't," I said in desperation, "We're going to get killed. Mia, I don't want to leave you. Please." I looked ahead and saw that gory flesh eaters were terrifyingly close. "MIA PLEASE!" I shouted, begging and pleading with her. Mia gave me a blank gaze, I looked ahead and saw the oncoming undead masses running towards us, now only yards away. I gave Mia a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry," I said. I then ran off, hurried down an alley way and quickly hid behind the large skip. I peered round the corner and watched as Mia remained stood on the spot staring directly at the infected with a blank look on her face. I looked ahead at her with a heavy heart and a stressed expression on my face as tear ran down my cheek. My body was filled with adrenaline and my stomach was churning. This was awful. I was about to watch Mia die. As the infected got closer to her, my nostrils flared, my heart rate increased and my breathing became shallower. Just as the first few of the infected masses approached Mia something very weird happened. They ran towards Mia, growling and screeching with the usual aggressive looks on their faces but when they were about ten feet away from her they continued viciously charging ahead but changed their direction with half of them running to the left of Mia and the other half running to the right. It was like there was some sort of weird invisible force field surrounding her. I watched on in complete shock and confusion. Every single one of the infected ran around Mia avoiding her like they weren't interested in her or like they couldn't get to her. Mia was now casually stood, looking completely indifferent in the middle of hundreds of infected. There was a steady stream of the undead flowing around Mia as she remained stationery with a look of apathy on her face. After a minute or so the hundreds of infected had ran past Mia and off into the distance, leaving her stood alone in the middle of the road. A few moments passed and I approached Mia with wide eyes, an open mouth and a look of utter disbelief on my face. "Right then," she casually said, "Shall we carry on?" "Whoa, hang on a minute," I exclaimed, "What the f*ck was all that?" "What was what?" asked Mia. "That!" I exclaimed, "That whole thing with the infected running around you and not touching you. It's like they knew you were there but weren't interested in you." "They're not interested in me," Mia, simply said. "Yeah but why not?" I exclaimed, "We've seen those things rip people apart but I have never seen them run around someone like that. What the Hell did those ACROBAT people do to you?" "Just stick with me," said Mia, "If you stay really close they'll avoid you too." "But what's happened to you!?" I loudly exclaimed, "How come they just ran round you like that!?" Mia just gave me her usual blank look which annoyed the sh*t out of me. "Oh for God's sake!" I shouted, "Stop looking at me like that and tell me what's going on?" "Come on," said Mia, "Let's get you back to where you need to be."
