Day 349
Thursday 10th August 2017 22:17What a tense day it's been. We didn't end up going back to the seaside town but we were reunited with a familiar face.
The day started with me and Mike getting ready to go out on a run. Courtney insisted on coming with us. Even though she's a teenage girl, I thought she'd be a lot more useful than Troy. As we were getting ready to go out, Mike was saying goodbye to Primark and Aldi. He was kissing them on the head, telling them that Uncle Mike would be back soon. The twins were screaming and crying. Mike and Auntie Meryl were trying to calm them down. "Noisy little sh*t factories," said Troy, "All they ever do is produce poo and scream the place down all day." "I know someone else like that," I said to Troy, implying I meant him. "They're babies," said Courtney to Troy, "They cry. It's just what they do. Get over yourself." Troy looked over at Mike who was looking down at the twins and smiling at them. "Look at him," said Troy, "If he came that close to me with his bad breath I think I'd be screaming the house down too." All of a sudden there was a loud banging sound coming from the front door. We all gasped, turned around and looked towards the noise. We all looked at each other in silence. "Just ignore it," said Troy with fear in his voice. We waited quietly for a few moments and the banging was heard again. We gasped and exchanged expressions of concern. "That's a person," said Courtney, "The infected don't knock like that. Someone's alive out there." The loud banging occurred again. "Bl**dy Hell," said Auntie Meryl, "They're persistent little buggers aren't they? It'll be Jehovah's Witnesses. Tell 'em to sling their hook." A muffled voice was then heard echoing up the stairs to the living room. "It sounds like they're saying let me in," I said. "Well of course they're saying 'let me in'," said Auntie Meryl, "They're not going to be knocking like that and yelling 'keep me out' are they?" The muffled voice continued. "What's he saying?" said Auntie Meryl, "Sounds like he saying 'it's bin day'." Auntie Meryl picked up a leaflet from the coffee table. "According to this, bin day was yesterday," she continued. Everyone started talking. I told everyone to shush and as silence fell I walked to the top of the stairs and listened carefully. I could now hear what the voice was saying. "Let me in!" the voice shouted, "It's TJ! Oh my God, it's TJ!" I exclaimed. I quickly ran downstairs, removed the barricade, unlocked the door and flung it open. Sunlight beamed into the house, blinding me slightly and making it hard for me to see. My vision adjusted, I looked ahead and stood before me was a grubby looking TJ, holding a bloody sledgehammer and covered in minor cuts and bruises. He looked exhausted. We exchanged brief looks of shock before he passed out and fell to the floor.
I carried TJ up the stairs and laid him on my bed. Courtney asked who he was and I explained everything to her. "He looks rough," said Troy, "Rougher than usual. What do you think's happened to him?" "I guess we'll just have to wait until he wakes up," I said. "How did he know we were in here?" asked Mike. "He probably recognised the car," I said, "Look at the state of him." Mike stormed off into the kitchen in a huff and I followed.
Mike told me he didn't like having TJ around. "For God's sake, Mike," I said, "He's your brother. After everything that's happened aren't you glad he's alive?" Mike shrugged. "He's going to ruin everything we've got here," he said. "What do you mean?" I asked. "I like being here," said Mike, "It's like we're a proper family. Just me, you, the twins and the dogs." "That's no way to talk about my Auntie Meryl and Courtney," I said. "I meant Ollie and her puppies," said Mike. "Mike, I don't know what your problem is," I said, "I know you and TJ don't get on and I'm certainly not expecting you to be best friends but can't we all just learn to live together? He is your little brother after all and he's the twins' Dad. Isn't it good that they've got their Dad back?" "He doesn't care about them," said Mike, "He doesn't care about anyone apart from himself. I love those kids more than he does." "Please, Mike," I said, "Can we all just learn to get along?" "I don't want him here," said Mike. "What do you want me to do?" I asked, starting to feel impatient, "Do you want me to chuck him out? Do you think I could be that cruel?" "I could," said Mike. I suddenly remembered that Mike had killed Kay and Alex and that he tried to kill TJ before. I turned round and gave Mike a serious look. "Now listen, Mike," I said, "I don't want any trouble and you know what I'm talking about. The only people we kill are infected ones, remember?" "We can kill bad people that want to hurt us though," said Mike. "TJ doesn't want to harm us," I said, "He might be a bit of a c*ck but he's not malicious. You promised me you wouldn't cause any trouble." "I won't!" Mike loudly exclaimed, "I just wish he wasn't here." "Give him a break," I said, "Dump shot his girlfriend. Anyway he tried to help me back at Dumpville, remember?" "I helped too," said Mike, sounding jealous. "I know you did," I said, "I'm not saying you didn't. I'm just saying TJ tried too." I reminded Mike that TJ was also a strong guy and that right now we needed as much muscle as we could get.
