Day 289
Sunday 11th June 2017 22:24

After yesterday's drama it's been a relatively quiet day although most of us have been putting plans into action.

Via the Tannoy system, Dump announced that a total of 177 bodies were collected from Dumpville; 16 soldiers, 103 residents and 58 unknown infected. We now have ten soldiers and just under 100 residents. Of the residents that died 12 of them were children including John and Yvonne's daughter, Sophie. Very sad. The problem is that we don't have enough room to bury so many dead bodies. Dump announced that he and Sergeant Reed were discussing the situation and trying to find a solution. I won't expect too much but something's going to have to be done with the dead bodies. They're currently being stored in one of the large sheds at the other side of the park. They can't stay there forever. Dump also announced that a full investigation regarding what happened yesterday was currently underway. What proceeded to follow was a Nazi style interrogation process where every single remaining Dumpville resident was hauled into Dump's office one by one and, in my case, aggressively interrogated by Dump and Reed.

When it was my turn to have questions thrown at me, it felt like Dump and Reed were trying to blame me and Trudy for what happened! Dump said that his understanding was that Trudy and I were the last people to shut the gates after Seth returned in the jeep. "Can you be a hundred percent sure that you locked the gates?" asked Dump. When he asked me that question I lost my temper. "No way," I aggressively said, "You're not pinning this on me, you can f*ck off." "Watch your mouth," snapped Reed. "Me and Trudy shut those gates and locked them shut because YOUR soldiers just stood there staring and doing nothing." "Those men are now dead," said Reed bluntly. "Well it was their own fault!" I assertively said, "If they hadn't just stood there like bl**dy scarecrows they might still be alive." Reed gave me a stare communicating absolute rage. I thought I might be pushing my luck so I kept my mouth shut. Dump asked me what I did with the keys after I'd locked the gates. I told him the truth and that I left them on the ledge next to the main gates, which is where they've been left before. "Are you telling me you just discarded the keys without handing them over to a soldier?" asked Dump. "Oh come off it," I said, "They've been left there loads of times." "Yes, when a soldier has been on guard," said Dump. "Well what did you want me to do?" I asked bluntly, "Ask the infected to wait a minute until I'd handed the gate keys over to a soldier that wasn't having his face ripped off. We all had more important things on our minds." "Well," said Dump, "Through your carelessness it seems that someone has taken the keys and unlocked the gates. It looks like they forgot to look them properly which allowed the infected to get in." My anger rose again and, digging deep for my balls, I adopted a firm, no nonsense stance. "That's b*llocks," I said, "You're trying to scapegoat me and I'm not having it. Other soldiers have been patrolling the gates between Seth returning and the wedding yesterday. Why didn't they do anything? The soldiers are meant to handover and check the keys. They obviously didn't do that. It sounds to me like you're shifting the blame from them to me." Dump and Reed squirmed and looked a bit uncomfortable. They obviously didn't expect my confident display of assertiveness. I was quite surprised with myself too; impressed but still surprised. "Let me tell you what I think happened," I confidently said, "I think someone with a grudge against Seth, waited for everyone to be out of the way, opened the gates and let all the infected in on purpose, and I think they did this so they could be seen to be taking control of the situation, try and blame Seth and then go back to controlling everyone." "Are you implying that I opened the gates and let the infected in?" Dump asked calmly. "Yes!" I said, loudly, immediately regretting my outburst and feeling scared. Dump gave me a creepy yet intimidating smile, turned to Reed and nodded his head. This must have been some sort of signal because the next thing I knew, Reed jumped to his feet, grabbed hold of me by the scruff of my neck, aggressively threw me to the other side of the room, wrapped his big veiny right hand around my neck and pinned me up against the wall. I was more shocked than scared but given Dump and Reed's behaviour I shouldn't have been surprised. Dump walked right up to me as Reed continued to hold me in place. "Now listen to me you little p*ss weasel," he vented, "This place is mine. You understand that? MINE! I've eaten little runts like you up for a morning snack and flushed you down the loo before lunch. You're only here because I let you stay here. I told you what I did to Debra and I can do the same to you. I could crush you like a grape; step on you like an ant. I could destroy you in a second and I could do it easily." "What's stopping you then?" I asked. "It entertains me to keep you around," said Dump, "But I'm starting to find myself becoming more annoyed and less entertained. Now I've given you warning after warning. If you want to stay in this place you'd better toe the line. I'm the boss, not you and certainly not that jumped up little know it all, Seth. I won't have him running round here, telling people what to do and acting like he's the leader. That's my job. MY JOB!" There was a pause. I looked at Dump with a feeling of anxiety thinking what an unhinged nutter he was. "You did let the infected in didn't you?" I said. There was another pause. Dump smiled and he nodded his head with a crazy look on his face. "Yes, I did," he said, "I will do anything to keep control of this place. Anything." "Even putting people's lives at risk and get your own soldiers killed?" I asked. Dump and Reed exchanged tense looks. I got the feeling Reed wasn't happy that Dump's actions had resulted in the death of more of his men. I looked at Reed. "You can't be happy with this," I said. "Shut up!" Dump shouted in my face. "Don't you get it?" I said to Dump, "The second you start lying and murdering that's when you lose control. You've never had control, you just think you have. You're a joke. This whole place is a joke." Dump gave a loud roar, took a step back, clenched his first and raised his arm ready to punch me. I scrunched my face up in preparation to receive the oncoming whack but Reed stopped Dump and grabbed his arm. "No," he said, "Think." There was a pause. After a few moments, Dump walked back up to me and gave me another one of his creepy smiles. "So I'm a joke am I?" he said, "Well why don't you tell me something? How was I able to kill your precious Debra and make it look like suicide if I'm such a pathetic joke? How have I been able to find out all your little secrets if I'm such a pathetic joke, and how have I managed to fill this place with infected and made it look like I had nothing to do with it if I'm really such a pathetic joke?" I said. I wanted to tell Dump that I knew about him pressuring on Trudy to tell him all of our secrets but I thought I'd better keep my mouth shut for now. "Well that's easy," I said, "You're a big bully and a master manipulator. You don't care about anyone in this place. You just want to stay in control. I can't believe that you let a load infected in just so you can look like you're in control." "I AM in control," said Dump, "I always have been." "This doesn't look like control to me," I said, "It was a blood bath out there yesterday. People have died because of you. Children for God's sake!" "Like I told you once before," said Dump, "Sometimes sacrifices are sometimes necessary." "Is that was Seth was?" I asked, "A sacrifice? Is that why you shot him?" Dump took a step back and looked confused. "I didn't shoot anyone," he said looking bewildered. Part of me thought this was another one of his lies but something about his demeanour made me think he was genuine. "Maybe I'm not the only one your new friend has p*ssed off," says Dump. This was interesting. If Dump didn't shoot Seth then who did? "Anyway," said Dump, "After my little demonstration that I orchestrated yesterday I don't think anyone will want to be leaving Dumpville for a while and I don't think Seth is any fit state to be leaving, do you?" "What are you going to tell everyone about the infected getting in?" I asked, "It won't take them long to think something dodgy has gone on." "You let me worry about that," said Dump with a mischievous grin. "What's to stop me from telling everyone what you've just told me?" I asked. "Nothing," said Dump with an evil grin, "But you know I'll get out of it. Like you said. I'm a master manipulator. You can't take me on without any serious evidence and you know it." What a b*stard. I was feeling so annoyed; partly with Dump for being such a murdering dictator but also with myself for not bringing the Dictaphone with me and recording all of this. I left Dump's feeling frustrated and powerless.
