Day 395
Monday 25th September 2017 20:47I've been feeling pretty p*ssed off today.
Naomi's still not back and it's like no one cares; like they've forgotten about her.
Auntie Meryl's been reading her Mills and Boon book, and Courtney and Josh have been on the sofa playing with Ollie, giggling and kissing each other. I looked over at them and shook my head in a disapproving way, feeling annoyed. "What's up with you Grandad?" Josh asked me. "Yeah what you shaking your head for?" asked Courtney. "Nothing," I bluntly snapped, "As long as you two can have a good snogging session that's all that matters." "Take a chill pill, Nanna," said Courtney, "It's only snogging."
I stood up and walked away. I noticed Lindon sat in the corner of the room eating some mini cheddars. "You alright Lindon?" I sarcastically said, "You OK sat there on your arse doing f*ck all to help whilst you eat your mini cheddars? You need anything to go with your savoury snack? A glass of wine? A piece of cheese? A slice of ham?" Lindon gave me his usual clueless look. "I can get it for you," I continued, "I mean I don't want you to hurt yourself. I don't want you to break into a sweat by breaking the habit of a life time and start getting up off your arse and contributing. You just stay there and carry on eating." I walked away from Lindon who maintained his gormless expression with a mouth full of cheesy savoury biscuits.
I then walked into the kitchen. Trudy and TJ were making lunch. "We're going to heat up some pasta," said Trudy, "Shall we have it with spicy tomato sauce or plain tomato sauce?" "Definitely spicy," said TJ. "I think Mike prefers it with plain," said Trudy. "Well it's a good job Mike brought back a load of pasta," said TJ, "It should keep us going for a bit." "Oh for f*cks sake," I bluntly said. "What's up with you?" asked Trudy. "Well, Auntie Meryl's out there reading a book, Courtney and Josh are sucking on each other's tongues, Lindon's eating all the mini cheddars and you two f*ckers are in here talking about what sort of sauce to have with pasta." "Yeah, what's up with that?" said TJ. "What's up with that?" I said, "What's up with that!!!? Are you f*cking kidding!? Have you forgotten who's still missing? Oh what am I talking about? Of course you've forgotten. Out of sight, out of mind. You've forgotten about Naomi just like you've forgotten about Mia." "So this is about Naomi," said TJ. "Of course it is!" I loudly exclaimed, "Who the f*ck else do you think I'm talking about!? She's out there somewhere all on her own, and you lot are in here talking about pasta sauce. It's like you don't give a toss about her." "For Christ's sake Luke," snapped Trudy, "Will you grow up and get a grip? I mean what do you want us to do? Walk around here crying, feeling crap and looking miserable? Would that make you feel better? Because the bottom line is, it wouldn't change anything. Stop being a moody pr*ck and be grateful that you're alive." Trudy returned to preparing the pasta. TJ shrugged and raised his eyebrows indicating that Trudy had made a good point.
Mike had a chat with me. "You OK babes?" he asked. "No I'm not," I snapped, "I seem to be the only one around here worried about Naomi." "Well I'm worried," said Mike, "But I've seen what Naomi can do. She's pretty tough." "But she's just lost her husband and we've lost our best chance to get to City One," I said, "She's vulnerable." "It's the end of the world, monsters are everywhere and we're being hunted by bad soldiers," said Mike, "I'd say we're all vulnerable." "But Naomi's alone," I said. "She might not be," said Mike. "Look," I firmly said, "I'm just saying that I'm worried about her and I don't like sitting here doing nothing. God, if I didn't have this broken arm. . ." "Well it wouldn't make a difference," said Mike, "You'd still have no idea where she is. You need to look after yourself, and from what you said Naomi seemed pretty determined to go out there alone." "I just don't like seeing people carry on like she was never here," I said, "It's like they've accepted that she's never coming back." "That's not how I see it," said Mike, "I think she will come back. Maybe everyone's not acting like this because they think Naomi's not coming back, but because they think she IS going to come back, meaning they're not worried. Maybe they've got more faith in her than you do."
This was an interesting point and I hadn't thought of looking at the situation like this before. Good old Mike, although it doesn't stop me fretting about Naomi and Mia, or feeling annoyed with the others.
