Day 262
Monday 15th May 2017 19:44

The sergeants still aren't back and it's got everyone talking.

Via the public address system this morning Dump told everyone that even though the sergeants hadn't returned there were still 32 armed soldiers in Dumpville who were keeping all of us safe. As I listened to him I'm sure I heard a tremor in his voice. I'm not sure if he's trying to convince himself or the rest of us.

I heard a rumour that Dump and the soldiers have been arguing with each other. Apparently he's asked them to go out on daily runs like the sergeants did but none of them want to.

I was with Trudy in the kitchens earlier on. We've still got plenty of food but it's certainly reduced a lot compared to this time two weeks ago. I guess we're slowly going to start to experience the effects of not having the sergeants here. There's still the vegetable garden and the chickens at the back of the park so I doubt we're all going to starve to death but pretty soon there'll be a lot more people than there is food to feed them. The sergeants just kept everything stocked up since they went out on their daily runs. I suppose we took it for granted.

It's weird. I always assumed that being here in Dumpville meant we'd never have to worry about food. If things carry on like this we'll be back to eating out of tins and collecting and boiling rain water. Maybe we needed the sergeants more than I care to admit.

Maybe we need to think of rationing food now before it gets too late, or maybe we need to have a conversation about who could go out on runs for food and supplies if the soldiers are refusing. Without the sergeants behind him I'm not convinced Dump is the right person to lead us through this potential crisis. I have a feeling there may be some tough times ahead.
