Day 259
Friday 12th May 2017 17:56Roger's dead!
On my way to work this morning Dump announced over the Tannoy system that last night, the armed soldier who was guarding Roger, discovered that he was infected. He said the armed soldier thought fast on his feet and shot the infected Roger in the head. Dump said that as we have no Doctor that there was no way of finding out how Roger became infected and that he'd be buried later on today. I immediately thought of Naomi and John, and came to the assumption that they must have managed to do something to Roger that resulted in him being shot and killed.
After work I went round to Naomi's. I asked her if she was responsible for Roger being killed. "Do you really want to know?" asked Naomi. I thought about this for a second. My curiosity got the better of me so I told Naomi I wanted to know. She explained that she went to see John last night and that they had a chat about Roger. "To cut a long story short," said Naomi, "We went to the kitchens where the food was being prepared, we found out which tray was being taken to Roger so we put a load of rat poison in with it." "What?!" I exclaimed. "Oh, Luke, don't start," said Naomi, "You said you wanted to know." "I didn't expect that! You can't just go around poisoning people!" I exclaimed. "What would you have preferred?" asked Naomi, "For me to find out where he's staying, kick the door down and cave his skull in with a sledge hammer?" "You could have ended up killing someone else," I said, "What if you'd have made a mistake. What if the tray of food had have been someone else's?" "Whose?!" exclaimed Naomi, "Roger's the only one around here who gets food taken to him. I did think it through, you know." "Really?" I exclaimed, "People are going to think something's suspicious." "So?" said Naomi, "I think most people will be glad to see the back of him. Anyway, nothing can be proved. You heard what Dump said this morning. There's no Doctor here, so there's no way of proving he was poisoned, and even if there was, loads of people go in and out of those kitchens; anyone could have done it and let's be honest, loads of people probably would have done it." "Bl**dy Hell," I said, "I had no idea you could be so calculated." "John was going to do it no matter what any of us said" said Naomi, "At least this way he got what he wanted, there's been minimal disruption and no one will ever know what John and I did." "Roger could have killed the soldier who was guarding him," I said, "The infection could have spread across Dumpville." "But it didn't," said Naomi. "But it could have done," I said, "What would have happened if Roger had infected the soldier and then the soldier had infected others. That would have been your fault." "That wouldn't have happened," said Naomi, "The soldier had a gun." "So!" I exclaimed, "That doesn't make a difference and you know it; me and you have got more experience than these soldiers when it comes to fighting the infected." "If Roger had infected the soldier I am sure other nearby soldiers would have sorted I out," said Naomi. "They didn't sort it out when Tina and Benjamin got infected," I said, "I think you're just thinking of yourself." "No!" snapped Naomi, "I'm thinking of Amelia and the kids in this place. It needed doing." "So you're happy for an innocent man to get killed if it means a paedo gets killed?" I asked. "Oh Luke, don't be like that," said Naomi, "It's called sacrifice. It's sometimes necessary." "That's exactly what Dump said the other day," I said, "Maybe you've got more in common than you realise." Naomi gave me an angry stare. I could feel the tension between us increasing. "That's low," she said with an unimpressed frown on her face. "You've scared everyone, Naomi," I said, "People don't know how Roger got infected. They don't know you and John poisoned him. Everyone's confused and scared, you could have killed one of the soldiers, gotten people in the kitchen into trouble and put loads of people under suspicion, and all to kill a paedophile who was already separated from the rest of us." "So you don't approve?" asked Naomi, bluntly. "No, sorry, I don't," I said. "Well I didn't agree with you sending Mike away," said Naomi, "He was a risk to people and you did what you needed to do. I did what I needed to do." "Mike being sent away was different and you know it," I said. "I'll tell you what I know," snapped Naomi, "I've got a daughter to look after I'll do whatever it takes to keep her from harm and if that means killing a self-confessed paedophile then that's what I'll do." "She's not your daughter." I snapped back at Naomi. "And Robbie wasn't your son," snapped Naomi, "But it didn't stop you from putting a bullet in his head, did it?" There was a moment of silence as Naomi and I exchanged angry stares. I was fuming with her at this point and she looked like she was fuming with me. Part of me wanted to slap her across the face. "THAT'S low," I said. "Well maybe we don't have anything else to say to each other," said Naomi. "Maybe we don't," I said. And with that, I walked away feeling upset, angry, dismayed and disappointed.
So it doesn't look like me and Naomi are talking. I can kind of see why she did what she did but in many ways I really don't think she thought it through. I also think she said some awful and unforgivable things. I think I'll avoid her for a bit.
Still no sign of the missing three sergeants. Dump said he is sure that they'll be back any day now but I'm not so sure.
