kindergarten-

Nina hopped into the classroom, her moms desperately trying to keep up. she was just so excited to meet her new teacher and make new friends.

she finally found her teacher and loudly introduced herself. her moms were talking to her new teacher when she noticed a little boy with curly hair sitting all alone on the rug. she quickly walked over to him and plopped down next to him.

"hi. i'm Nina Salazar-Roberts. what's your name?"

the boy smiled a toothy grin, "i'm Richard! Richard Bowen!" he said, his vowels not coming out correctly.

"it's nice to meet you Richard. i think we're gonna be best friends!"

"thanks, Ni-Nin-Nini." Richard stumbled over her name.

Nina made a face, "my names Nina, not Nini."

she could see Richard's face fall, she decided to speak again. "you can call me Nini though, i like that better than Nina."

the toothy grin reappeared.

first grade-

Nini and Richard hung out all school year last year and all summer. they had become best friends, spending every minute possible together.

Nini had even declared a new nickname for him during the first week of classes!

pensively, the little girl turned to Richard. "Richard is an old mans name. i'm gonna call you Ricky from now on!"

that was the reason she gave him but it very well could've had to do with the fact that two days prior, Ricky had microwaved her newest barbie when she came to his house.

fourth grade-

Nini had a science project on what happens to bread and how it gets moldy.

Ricky told her he was hungry but she insisted that she'd feed him once she was finished with her project.

needless to say, he ate the moldy bread.

yeah, they both suffered on that one.

fith grade-

Nini had decided to put out a lemonade stand since it was one of the hotter days in September.

she was sitting outside her house, watching Ricky do tricks on his new bike that he'd gotten for his birthday.

that was until he ran into her stand and almost killed her.

that was also the year her moms bought her a ukulele for her birthday. the first song she wrote was about clouds.

that was the first time Ricky thought he liked her.

seventh grade-

"come on Nini, live a little! i'll even hold your hand." Ricky said as they were next in line for the roller coaster at Six Flags.

Carol and Dana has taken the kids on a long weekend trip to six flags. they always tried to take the two somewhere for a long weekend every year. it was tradition.

Nini ended up enjoying the ride. that was until they got off and Ricky suddenly didn't look so good. he threw up all over her old purple converse.

"oh my god Nini, i'm so sorry."

"Ricky, bubs, it's okay. i've been meaning to get rid of these for a while anyway. i outgrew them last year."
