when Nini got pregnant she thought her doctor was messing with her, she had simply gone in for a routine check up only to have her doctor tell her she was pregnant. Ricky and she had only been married for three months, they weren't really trying to have a baby but they weren't exactly being safe either.
when Nini found out she was having twins on her first go, she thought that it had to be a practical joke. there was no way that she couldn't have even been trying to get pregnant only to end up with twins. it was a shock to say the least.
everything doubled in the newlyweds house. suddenly Nini was carrying for two, all the previously bought baby supplies had doubled overnight, meaning two cribs, two high chairs, two car seats, two of everything.
their life had been turned upside down twice now. they were so grateful that they had bought a house the size they did when they got married because now they definitely needed it.
they'd lucked out when they found out they were having dizygotic fraternal twins. they'd really knocked it out of the park on the first go. a boy and a girl at the same time, what are the odds of that? (actually it's a 50% chance but, who's counting!)
the moment they held their babies in their arms, they knew that they'd do anything for their kids. they'd started this tradition where every birthday, the twins got to eat a piece of cake for breakfast and then they decided where they wanted to go for lunch and an activity for the day. Nini and Ricky had only done big parties for the twins until they were about five, then they decided that they just wanted to be together for the day.
August 12th rolled around again, making it the special day for the double trouble Bowen's, as Ricky called them. they always let the twins sleep in on their birthday, it was summer and they deserved it for their special day. Nini and Ricky had their own tradition of morning mimosas to celebrate how far they'd come in the past years.
Ricky came into the kitchen, his pajama clad body slowly walking towards his wife, his arms wrapping around her waist, his chin on her shoulder as he watched her mix the bottle of champagne and orange juice into two flute glasses. Nini turned slightly in his arms, handing him his glass.
Ricky continued to hold onto her waist as Nini held her glass up to his, "here's to the last 11 years." they clinked their glasses together before taking a sip of the fruity mixture.
Ricky set his glass back on the counter as he pulled his wife closer towards him, his lips meeting hers. Nini set her glass down to move her hands to hold his neck, the couple kissing for a few minutes. they broke apart, Nini running her hands down the front of his tee shirt clad chest. Ricky smirked, "you know, the last 11 years have done you well. you're still as sexy as the day i married you."
Nini chuckled in his arms, "being sweet on me this morning, are we Bowen? i sense some ulterior motives."
Ricky's lips brushed near her ear, "maybe i wanna sneak back upstairs before the kids get up, maybe it's time to add one more to the mix." he whispered before he started trailing kisses down her neck.
"oh no," Nini said as she pulled herself out of his arms, "i've said this before and i'll say it again, no more Ricky. we hit the lottery on the first try, i have no doubt that we'd do it again on the second. i'm not pushing another set of twins out of me."
the delivery had been brutal for Nini. she had opted to go with a natural delivery rather than a C-Section, she didn't want that scar. it had been rough. Nini was in labor for five whole days, her water finally breaking on the third day but not dilating until the fourth day. the twins were 20 minutes apart, their son coming out first and then their daughter. Nini never wanted to do that again. she had a chance of getting pregnant with multiples again after finding out that her great grandmother was a twin, the gene usually passed every other generation but had skipped Dana's generation, landing Nini with the multiple gene. she loved her kids more than anything but she didn't want anymore, as much as she missed the baby stage.
Ricky tried to pout to get what he wanted, his wife seeing right through him, "Richard, no. as hot as you look holding a newborn, were too old and tired to raise another baby."
"Neens, we're only 36, some people don't start having kids till they're 40."
Nini knew he was just trying to get on her nerves. it wasn't that they hadn't discussed having another baby, because they had, multiple times. it was just never the right time and now she was so caught up in the twins that she was perfectly happy with their family of four. Ricky loved the size of their family, he didn't mind only having the twins, he just loved to push Nini's buttons.
they sat at the table, sipping their mimosas and chatting before they could hear the beginnings of the stampede from the upstairs bedrooms. the sounds of their kids arguing as they raced down the stairs filled the house.
Nini gave them a pointed look before getting up to pull them into her arms, "happy birthday Avery and Aiden! my babies are 11!"
"mom," Aiden said as he wiggled his way out of his moms arms, "we're not babies anymore."
Ricky pulled his son to him in a hug, ruffling his curly hair, "happy birthday kiddo, you're like, almost a man now." he joked as his son chuckled.
Nini put the large breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and fruit onto plates for her kids, setting them in front of their designated seats at the table. Ricky followed behind her with two slices of chocolate cake, setting them in the middle of the table for the kids to eat for their 'post breakfast desert' as his son called it.
the kids had finished their plates, Nini and Ricky finishing their celebratory drinks before they joined the kids again at the kitchen table.
"so, what's the plan for today?" Nini asked, her chin resting on her hands.
Avery and Aiden exchanged a look before the girl spoke up, "can we just do something with grandma and grandpa and Lolas?"
this surprised the parents, the twins never wanted something so low key. they always wanted to go to a big restaurant and then go somewhere like a theme park to celebrate.
"you wanna go to your grandparents?" Ricky asked skeptically.
Aiden nodded, chocolate crumbs on his face falling as he did so, "yeah, we talked about it last night and that's what we want to do."
Nini smiled, "okay! then that's what we'll do!"
the kids jumped up excitedly and ran to go get ready. Nini placed a call to her moms as Ricky texted his dad, asking him to come to Nini's moms house to celebrate with the twins, letting Lynne know as well since she was in town for their birthday.
the family piled into the car, the twins excitedly chatting and singing as they prepared to celebrate with their family. as soon as the car pulled in the driveway, Aiden and Avery jumped out of the car and into their Lola's waiting arms.
Ricky and Nini watched as their kids hugged their grandmothers, excitedly running into the house. Mike, Jenn, and Lynne arrived together, embracing the younger couple as they went into the house.
the adults couldn't help but laugh as the kids tore open their gifts, showing everybody in the room what they got. Nini relaxed into Ricky's open arms, kissing his cheek as he smiled at his children.
she loved watching him be a father, it made her happier than anything in the world. she ran her index finger along the line of his jaw, "hey." she whispered.
Ricky looked down at her, "hey."
she paused for a moment, looking back at her kids before meeting her husbands eyes again, "you really want another baby?"
Ricky's eyes grew wide for a second before he nodded his head, "i do Neens, i really do."
"then let's do it."
"really? i don't want you to do it if you don't want to." Ricky questioned as he whispered to his wife.
Nini nodded, "i want to, if you're happy then i'm happy."
Ricky smiled wide, "then let's do it, let's have another baby."
the couple kissed quickly, turning to look at their twins in front of them. the family that sat in this room was all they needed to be happy, but another little baby would make it all the better.
