life had been good for the engaged couple. graduation had come and gone. they had managed to save up enough money and with the help from Nini's Lola, Ricky and Nini moved into a small one room apartment together in Salt Lake. they had both enrolled in University of Utah and were happier than they ever were.

both had long since turned 18 and it was the summer between their freshman and sophomore year of college. they had been planning their wedding throughout the year, ultimately deciding on a small ceremony in a lodge in the mountains.

they didn't spend much on the wedding. the majority of their budget went towards the venue. Nini got a deal on her wedding dress and Ricky's dad has a friend from high school that owns a tux shop and got him a good deal. she only had a few bridesmaids so their dresses weren't that expensive either.

they were excited. when they had moved to college, people were surprised to learn that they were engaged. it wasn't every day that you see two 18 year olds who were getting married. their new college friends thought it was a little strange. but they were happy, that's all that mattered.

the wedding was a day away. Ricky and Nini decided to pass on the whole bachelor and bachelorette party situation, they wanted to spend the day together. it was the night before the wedding, Ricky and Nini were laying in their bed, discussing the rest of their lives.

"i can't wait to marry you." she said, running her hand up and down his chest as they cuddled.

"me either. tomorrow is going to be the best day of our lives. it's gonna be the start to our future together." they shared a soft kiss.

in the morning, Nini awoke to an empty bed. instead of finding Ricky next to her, she found a note with his handwriting.

Baby,
i cannot wait to see you tonight, i know you're going to look so beautiful. i can't wait to see where the future takes us. there's going to be so much excitement tonight with all our friends and families around but i just want to take a moment to remind you how much i love you. i've loved you since the very first moment i met you. i always knew i was going to marry you. i love you so much Nina Salazar-Roberts, or should i say Nina Bowen? i can't wait to get to call you my wife, to spend the rest of our lives together. i love you so much sweetheart, here's to forever darling.
forever yours,
Ricky.

she smiled at the note in her hand, she can't believe she's about the marry this boy. he was such a sap, always professing his love to her. it was one of her favorite things about him. she sighed before getting out of bed, her moms and grandmother would be there soon.

Nini was ecstatic. everybody was gushing over how beautiful she looked as Gina did her makeup and Ashlyn did her hair. tears filled the room as Nini slipped on her dress. everybody said that she was absolutely beautiful. she'd believe it when she heard Ricky say it.

they arrived at the lodge later that afternoon, just before the ceremony was set to start. Mike was waiting for them when they got there.

"wow Nini, you look astounding!" he gushed.

Mike had eventually come around to the idea of his son getting married so young. he took some time to think about it and realized that his son knew what he was doing. he had been quite helpful planning the wedding.

"how's Ricky?" Nini asked. she was afraid that he would chicken out.

"he's nervous but really excited. i think he just wants to get it all over with." Mike laughed, easing Nini's mind.

she went back to her suite to do some finishing touches, adding her vail and putting on her shoes. Ricky and Nini had decided to be unconventional, ditching the fancy shoes for pairs of Converse. Ricky had bought a new pair of black high tops and Nini bought a new pair of white high tops. people thought it would look weird but they wanted to be different.

she looked in the mirror as she took a deep breath. in five minutes she would no longer be Nina Salazar-Roberts, but rather Nina Bowen. she couldn't be more excited about that.

she stood at the end of a long hallway outside of the area where the reception was being held. she looked at her moms on each side of her. she wanted both of them to walk her down the isle. she heard the music start. the couple had chosen an instrumental version of home by edward sharpe as the song that Nini would enter to. she watched as Gina and EJ entered, followed by Ashlyn and Red as the maid of honor and best man respectively.

Nini nodded when her moms asked if she was ready. she was beyond ready. they walked down the hallway into the great room of the lodge. there was an archway where Ricky stood with the officiant and the wedding party.

Ricky.

he couldn't believe the sight he was seeing. Nini looked beautiful and elegant, she just took his breath away. her moms gave her away and she handed her flower bouquet to Ashlyn. she was finally face to face with her man again. he looked so handsome in his blue suit. the two smiled at each other.

"ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today to witness the marriage of Nina Malou Salazar-Roberts and Richard Alexander Bowen. these two souls have been joined together for years and now it is time for them to be joined in marriage. Richard and Nina have both written their own vows."

Ricky went first, "Nina, my Nini, i've always known that one day you'd be my wife. i like to think that i've known since that first day of kindergarten but who knows when it really was. i've been in love with you since the day i've met you. i just didn't realize it until we were 13. that day that i finally asked you out was the best day of my life, but to be honest, this day beats that day. i'm so excited to start to rest of our lives together. i promise that i will devote every second of our time together to being the best husband, partner, father and whatever else i become, for you. i will do everything in my power to make you happy. i'd give you the world if you asked me to Nini. i'd do anything for you because you're my person. you're my one and only. i love you so much."

Nini had tears in her eyes, "Richard, my Ricky, to be honest i've wanted this day to come for a long time. we may be young but you're it for me. i've known it since the first time i met you, i always knew that you'd be in my life forever. i want to make infinite memories with you, i want to make you laugh, i want to make you cry, i want to write you songs, i want to share everything with you for the rest of time. i would do anything for you Ricky, i would give up theatre for you and that's saying a lot coming from me but that's how much i love you. i want to you to be the first thing i see in the morning and the last thing i see at night. i'm ready to give my all to our marriage, i'm ready to see what the world throws at us because we can handle anything and everything together. i love you so much Ricky, here's to the future baby."

the two shared rings, both tiny gold bands to match the engagement ring that Nini has. they held hands, fingers interlaced as the officiant spoke again.

"by the power vested in me by the great state of Utah, i now pronounce you husband and wife."

Ricky pulled Nini in by the waist to kiss her for the first time as his wife. she held onto his shoulders as they kissed quickly for a moment. the crowed applauded and cheered for the couple as they broke apart.

"for the first time, i give you Mr and Mrs Richard and Nina Bowen!"

they could get used to hearing that.
