Ricky grins as he glanced in the rear view mirror at his wife. her fingers carefully caressed their newborns cheek, a wide smile on her face as she looked lovingly at their baby.

their daughter was completely planned, the couple trying for a few months to get pregnant before it finally happened. Nini had told him when he came home from work one day to see her waiting in the living room, a little gift bag in her hand for him. inside was a onesie with her due date printed on it. they both cried together, happy tears, at the joyful news.

now, their lives were complete. their new little bundle of joy was something they had anticipated for so long and she was finally here.

Ricky carefully pulled into the driveway of their home, turning off the car and turning back to look at his wife, "we're home."

Nini smiled and moved to get out of the car, wincing a little bit in pain from her labor and birth two days ago, waiting for Ricky to come and grab the car seat.

she walked slowly behind him as they made their way onto the front porch, Ricky pulling out his keys to unlock the door. the house was quiet, untouched from when they left in a hurry three days ago to get to the hospital. Nini slips her shoes off and goes to sit on the couch, Ricky taking the small baby out of the car seat and sitting down next to his wife.

she leans against his shoulder as he holds the tiny bundle in his arms. the baby girl was tiny, coming unexpectedly three weeks early, therefore she was a bit on the smaller side.

Emilia Grace Bowen is the tiniest baby you've ever seen. she weighed only 5 pounds and 7 ounces. she was perfectly healthy but just small. she has olive skin like her mother and a dark tuft of tiny brown curls on top of her small head. she was dressed in a tiny little floral onesie that Nini had bought to specifically take her home from the hospital in. the baby looked even smaller in her husbands arms.

"you look good holding her." she says quietly against his shoulder.

he smiles a little at the sleeping baby, "she's so tiny, she's perfect Neens."

Nini leaned up slightly and pressed a kiss to his cheek before nuzzling her nose into his shoulder as she looked down at her daughter.

nobody tells you how hard it truly is having a newborn baby.

the first few days were amazing. Emilia slept almost all day every day for the first four days they were home. she never cried, she ate perfectly, she went down to sleep in minutes, Ricky and Nini couldn't have wished for a better baby.

then the fifth night hit.

Nini sits up in bed, her face in her hands as her baby girl lays against her legs that are pulled up. the still full bottle sits on the nightstand next to her, the baby refusing to take it. little Emilia was screaming so hard that her little face was bright red and Nini couldn't get her to stop.

"baby girl, stop, please!" she whines slightly, her hands dropping from her face, "what do you need?"

Ricky sighs as he comes back into the room, getting back in the bed next to his wife and placing his hand on the baby's belly, rubbing softly but that only made her cry harder.

"Ricky! stop!" Nini snapped at her husband.

he withdrew his hand quickly at the sound of her voice, "i'm just trying to help babe."

she sighs frustratedly, pulling the little girl against her chest, "i know you are, i'm sorry. i'm exhausted and i don't know what's wrong with her. i've tried to feed her, i rocked her, i changed her diaper, nothing is working. it's been almost two hours of her just screaming."

his hand finds her knee over the comforter, trying to sooth his wife a little, "maybe we should sing to her? maybe she'd like that."

Nini nods as a frustrated tear rolls down her cheek. she wipes it away and moves to lay the baby down on top of the comforter between her and Ricky. the baby continues to scream.

"Mia, baby, calm down." Ricky says quietly to his daughter as Nini takes a deep breath.

"living in my own world, didn't understand. that anything can happen, when you take a chance." he sings lowly, his daughters cries overpowering him.

"i never believed in, what i couldn't see. i never opened my heart, to all the possibilities." Nini chimes in, her fingers rubbing her baby's leg.

the couple look at each other for a split second before continuing to sing together, "i know that something has changed, never felt this way. and right here tonight, this could be the start of something new."

the baby begins to quiet down as the parents sing together, Mia's wide eyes staring up at them in wonder.

they continue to sing quietly until the baby closes her eyes, finally quieting down after all those hours. Nini grabs Ricky's hand tightly as they sing the last few notes. she slips a binky into the baby's mouth, the tiny girl gladly sucking on it as she sleeps soundly.

the new parents gently fall against the headboard, sighing exhausted as they look at their sleeping girl, "finally." she says tiredly.

Ricky hums quietly, "you can say that again. these last few days tricked us. i was not prepared for that."

"me either." Nini says as she leans against his shoulder, her eyes closing.

though parenting was tough, every moment was exciting. the little milestones that their baby made every day was what kept them going.

Nini smiles as she holds the tiny baby in her lap, sitting up a little, "hi Emmy, hi baby." she says in a cute little voice.

she bounced the baby a little bit in her lap, grinning when the baby would coo. Ricky leaned over the back of the couch, chuckling as he watched his two favorite girls.

"she loves you." he says, smiling widely while watching his daughter.

she places the baby up against her chest, "well i would hope so, i carried her for nine months."

he chuckles, coming around to sit next to her on the couch, is hand finding the tiny baby's back as her tiny head turns to look at him, "hi baby girl."

the new family sits together, basking in the love and comfort that they've created together. this life is new and exciting, they wouldn't trade it for anything.
