august slipped away,
like a bottle of wine,
cause you were never mine.

Nini closed her eyes as she stood on the balcony of her hotel room, the California breeze blowing through her hair. while this was meant to be a work trip, it didn't mean she couldn't have a few moments alone.

while only being 23, Nini was already a successful event planner for an agency in Salt Lake. they had sent her on a month long trip to California to oversee the corporate opening of a new business. they were throwing a huge launch party at the end of the month and Nini was in charge of it.

her life was pretty hectic. after graduating two years early from The University of Utah, she immediately began working for Happy Endings Event Planning in SLC, working over 40 hours a week, every week. she worked weekends and holidays, her life revolving around her job. Nini barely had time for friends, let alone relationships. but that didn't mean she couldn't have fun from time to time.

Nini opened her eyes and glanced back into the hotel room, seeing the curly haired young man fast asleep in her bed. it was early, Nini always being a morning bird, so she couldn't help but notice the glow on his tanned skin from the morning sunrise. she bit her lip as she thought of last night.

she'd only been in LA for about two days before she ended up in a bar down the street. she was tired, wanting a break from her demanding job so she figured she'd go get a drink. then she met him. he sat down next to her, the two striking up a conversation and seemingly hitting it off. they talked about life, relationships, music, their work. they played a game of pool, him not so subtly leaning behind her to help her with the stick. they danced to the music playing from the jukebox. they downed several shots together before taking a walk on the beach right behind her hotel.

they held hands as they walked on the beach, his fingers playing with hers as they spoke quietly to each other, they could finally speak without having to yell over other bar patrons. they stopped for a moment, and in very un-Nini like fashion, she leaned up and kissed him. they kissed passionately on the beach, the moonlight surrounding them as waves crashed in the background. in even less likely Nini fashion, they headed back up to her room together.

now, Nini steps around the discarded clothing on her floor, stumbling a little as she trips over his pants.

"you okay?" she hears his voice groan.

she tucks some hair behind her ear and glances at him, smiling a little, "yeah, i'm fine."

she watches as he sits up in bed, his eyes roaming over her for a moment. she felt a little exposed, standing in nothing but his tee shirt that she slipped on before getting out of bed this morning. his eyes glanced over her long, tanned legs, smirking a little when he met her eyes again. she smirked as well, sauntering over to the bed, crawling over to him and straddling his lap as he leaned against the headboard.

"good morning." he said quietly, a soft smile on his lips.

Nini smiled and bit her lip, "good morning Ricky."

he nudged her nose with his a little before finding her lips again. they kissed softly for a few minutes, his hands rubbing her bare thighs, her fingers toying with his curls a little. they broke apart and smiled against each other's lips.

"i don't do this often." she whispered.

Ricky furrowed his brows a little, "do what?"

"meet men in a bar and take them home with me."

he smiles and chuckled, which makes her heart soar, "well i'd hope not, you're too nice for bar hookups."

"well isn't that what this is?" Nini asks.
