My mom and I walked off to the side, out of ear shot of the other people. She took a deep breath before she started spilling what had happened to her and my dad, "Arlo was... floated. He took the blame for every crime they charged us with. We knew one of us had to come down here to find you and he wasn't going to let it be him."
Her tears dripped down her soft cheeks and I couldn't stop mine from coming.
"When did they float him?" I managed to squeak out.
She hesitated, then told me, "Unity Day." I felt my heart sink. I could have talked to him at least one last time if the counsel would have just let him get on the radio. Anger began to replace my sadness.
"We always knew this would happen one day," my mom admitted. "We did break laws but we did it for you. We did it so you could survive here. We don't regret anything sweetheart, all your dad wanted was for you to be prepared and safe."
I know my father sacrificed himself for me because of the love he had for his daughter, it just felt horrible. My mom interrupted my thoughts, "you have friends out there Kota, people you trust. You all know more than we do, we need them back."
I was surprised at her words. She actually wanted me to go out there and look for them, "mom no, I just got you back."
"I'll be here when you return," she promised. "Kane is not going to send search teams out, someone has to go and you know the land better than anyone else."
This only confirmed that I had to go. I nodded to her and looked to the Ark. I needed to get Bellamy before anything else.
"I'll see you soon," I looked back to her before making my way into the Ark. Bear was following me, but I had to be discrete about this. I tried to get him to stay outside so I could come back and get him, but he wouldn't listen to me.
"Fine just stay quiet," I talked to him like a person. I walked straight to med bay with Bear at my side. When I entered, Finn's head shot up from a laying position next to Raven.
"Finn," I started to say, but he looked like he has been waiting for me to come. "You have the same idea."
He got up and walked towards me, "let's get Bellamy out of here and go."
We both left med bay and I spoke quietly, "Raven pulled through, badass."
"With your help. Thank you," Finn said back to me as we weaved through a hallway. We finally found where they were keeping prisoners and opened the door to enter the damaged room.
I ran to Bellamy, he seemed a little shocked to see Finn and I. I grabbed the bolt cutters that were conveniently near to snap off the wire around his hands.
"Let's go find our friends," Finn said as Bellamy and I stood up.
"Hey what about me? You can't leave me here," Murphy said from the other side of the room. I didn't even look at him, he pissed me off too much.
Bellamy ended up stalking over to him after taking the bolt cutters from me. Finn attempted to stop whatever he was about to do, but Bellamy didn't listen. I don't know what I expected him to do to Murphy, but I was surprised when Bellamy released him from the post he was attached to.
Bear let out a groan which made the hair on my neck stick up, "someone's coming. We need to leave." All of us rushed out of the room, now we just had to get out of Camp Jaha. I may have told Bear to pee on the sign when I first saw it.
We managed to sneak out of camp without anybody knowing. That was until I practically ran into an Ark guard. Bellamy grabbed my arm to pull me back beside him.
