"We're back, bitches!" Octavia screamed as soon as she jumped down onto the dirt none of us thought we'd ever touch. I was the first one to sprint out of the drop ship after her. I jumped onto her back, knocking both of us down to the grassy soil. Octavia looked over to me as we both giggled, delighted in our new and improved home.
Everyone else was running out of the ship around us with celebratory yelling. Octavia popped back onto her feet before I did. I was just trying to take it all in, the sun, the smell and most importantly the fresh air. She reached a hand out to me, which I took with a smile, to help me back up.
"I can't believe we're actually here," I spoke to her while brushing the dirt off the back of my cargo pants.
"Way better than being floated," Octavia responded with a smirk. Her grin quickly faded once I didn't say anything back right away, she probably thought she hit a nerve with me.
"I wouldn't know," I joked, making light of what she said. Her smile came back as she watched me flip off the blue sky. If we weren't sent down today, my body would have been flying through the stars. I just turned eighteen and was still sentenced to being floated at my hearing just a few days ago. I was scheduled to be eliminated a half hour after the drop ship took off.
Octavia pulled me into a sincere hug, "you don't know how happy I am that you're still here with me."
I was hugging her back with my eyes closed, forcing myself not to tear up. Luckily, I collected myself fast enough. As we pulled away from our embrace there were matching smiles covering both our faces.
"O," a man called out. We turned to see who was approaching us, even though I could tell Octavia already knew who it was. I noticed it was her brother, as I saw earlier in the drop ship when they reunited. I recognized who he was from even before I knew Octavia, we were always in the same earth skills class that my mother taught.
"Bellamy, this is Kota," Octavia officially introduced us. Yes, we knew of each other from the Ark, but it was just in passing. Neither of us had really talked to each other before.
"Dakota Solace," Bellamy stated my full name as he gleamed at me. Next thing I knew, his arms were wrapped around my back. It took me by surprise, my eyes went wide from the impact and it took me a few seconds to realize that I hadn't returned the hug. I reciprocated the embrace briefly, then he pulled away.
"What was that for?" I half laughed looking up to meet his warm eyes.
Octavia whacked my arm with a short laugh, "it was for me dumb ass."
Bellamy looked at Octavia, then back to me. "I never got to say thank you," he revealed.
"We still got arrested so what I did, didn't help much," I told Bellamy while keeping my gaze on him. He looked good, way better in sunlight than that artificial, florescent Ark light.
I could feel Octavia roll her eyes beside me, "why can't you just accept thank you's?"
"Hands off of him, he's with us," I heard a recognizable voice from behind Bellamy. I walked past him to go towards the small commotion, the siblings following close behind me.
"Relax, we're just trying to figure out where we are," Wells said as he came into my view. I couldn't take anything coming out of his mouth seriously. His dad royally pissed off basically every single person here, including me.
Bellamy spoke up while taking a step forward, "we're on the ground. That not good enough for you?"
Wells approached Bellamy, "we need to get to Mount Weather..."
His voice trailed off in my head, blah blah blah was all I could decipher. Octavia and him were going at it now, but I wasn't paying much attention. My eyes were just focused on my friend who hasn't caught on that I was there yet. Clarke's voice rose through the bickering, explaining why Wells was correct. Once again, blah blah blah.
My eyes followed my friend as he shoved Wells calling him 'the chancellor of Earth.' He was ready to fight Wells until another boy I remembered as Finn jumped in to break it up.
I heard Octavia hit on him as the other boy walked off, but the boy I was watching didn't get too far.
"Murphy?" I called to him. He spun around immediately at the sound of my voice.
"Kota? Shit, I thought they floated your ass," he announced with a smug grin while walking to me. So many hugs today, I thought it would never end. But it felt nice to hug Murphy, until he playfully rubbed the top of my head with his knuckles.
"Not yet," I said as we pulled apart. "It's good to see you."
His smile never left his face as he said, "I'm glad you're alive."
"I'm going to go find Octavia, don't wreak havoc," I stated as I turned around to start walking off.
"Do you know me?" He shouted rhetorically at me.
I found Octavia standing in a group with a few people, including Wells and Clarke. Yeah, I thought Wells was annoying but we did need food. I decided I would go with them to Mount Weather, not for them but for food.
As soon as I walked up, Clarke was chastising Finn for attempting to take the wrist band off.
I immediately made it clear I was on Clarke's side with the wrist bands, "are you stupid?"
Everyone turned their heads to me, just noticing I popped into the conversation.
"If you want the people you love to come down in two months, you wouldn't be taking that off," Clarke clarified. That shut Finn up right away. Clarke gave me a thankful look for supporting what she was saying. Both my parents were still on the Ark and I want to see my two favorite people again, so I take these wrist bands pretty seriously.
"Are we going to Mount Weather?" I asked, directing my question towards Clarke.
"Yes, right now. Are you coming?" She questioned.
"I'm up for an adventure," I said in return. I had mixed feelings about Clarke. It wasn't because she was privileged, I was too because of my dad's occupation. It was because she was friendly with Wells. Other than that I really had no problem with her, we never knew each other enough for me to make any major assumptions about her.
I noticed Bellamy wasn't all for Octavia coming along, but he didn't fight her too hard on it. He glanced over to me as Octavia started to walk off. I didn't know what it was supposed to mean, but I nodded towards him as to say goodbye for now. Our small group began the trek to Mount Weather.
