We trudged through the forrest to get to the shield at Sanctum, my body and mind was exhausted. I haven't had good sleep in a while and those hallucinations I was having took a lot of energy away from me.
"What do we do now?" Layla asked as we came to a stop. If we moved forward anymore we would walk right into that radiation shield.
"Now we wait," Gabriel answered.
I could see that Bellamy was still on edge about this plan. I reached my hand up to gently place it on his bicep. He looked over to me as I spoke, "Clarke will get it down, you know she will."
Bellamy took his gaze away from me and onto Gabriel, "you can go in and help her."
"How?" Octavia got in the middle. "They know what he looks like from Jade. Besides, that's not the plan."
Bellamy turned away to look back towards the shield, a few seconds later Octavia came to stand in front of us.
"I left them," Bellamy said to her. He turned his head to look at me. "And I took you with me. We could've helped them if we were in there."
I shook my head gently, "we're not supposed to separate from each other, remember?"
Bellamy let out a huff of air, obviously frustrated and stressed with himself.
"You guys leaving is why they're still alive," Octavia stated as she looked between her brother and I.
"You don't know that," Bellamy refuted. "You heard Murphy, our people are in deep shit."
"Our people are strong," Octavia fired back. "They'll be okay."
"Everybody always thinks that," Bellamy continued to his sister. "The truth is.. you're fine until you're not."
"Murphy said he'd help," Octavia brought up.
"Like that brings us any comfort," I commented with a short laugh. I saw an eye roll from Bellamy and a thin smile from Octavia.
Octavia reached both her hands out, one of them held onto my hand and her other hand was placed lightly on Bellamy's forearm. She looked at her brother as she spoke, "have some faith."
She retracted her arms and moved away from the two of us, I kept my eyes on Bellamy as I tried to gauge what he was thinking about. I let out an unintentionally big yawn and I wanted to kick myself for it. This was not the time for a nap.
"Tired?" Bellamy asked me, not letting my yawn go unnoticed.
"Not at all," I replied sarcastically.
"Sure," he let out a lighthearted scoff. "What did you want to ask Murphy? When we were in the tent, you said his name."
I let out a sigh before answering, "if he knew anything about Kane."
"Mm," Bellamy nodded. Both of us cared for him dearly, I knew Bellamy wondered the same thing. "I guess we're just gonna have to have a little faith."
"I guess so," I agreed softly.
"You should get some rest," Bellamy told me.
"No, not right now," I turned the idea down.
"Come on, Kota. Your eyes aren't invisible, I know what exhaustion looks like on you," Bellamy exposed. "Get some sleep, we're just waiting right now anyways."
I shook my head, but I knew I wasn't going to be successful in fighting off my drowsiness, "fine. Wake me up soon."
"I will," Bellamy assured while he dipped his head down to place a soft kiss on the top of my head. After he pulled away, I turned around and walked my way through the group of people part of the Children of Gabriel. They were all waiting here patiently with us for that shield to come down.
I found a tree to lean my back against and made myself as comfortable as possible sitting down in the dirt. I stared at Sanctum before I considered closing my eyes. I wanted our people alive and safe, the waiting game absolutely sucked. I wondered about Liam too. I'd consider him a friend to Reese and I, he helped us more than once. I questioned which side he would take on this if he knew the truth about the Primes, I just hoped he was alright and not in any trouble for being in cahoots with us.
Soon, my heavy eyelids got the best of me and I drifted off to sleep. I said a little prayer to myself right before my eyes shut, hoping to not have any nightmares. I did not want an embarrassing moment like that to be put on display for all these people. Luckily for me, God decided to be on my side and I slept in peace the entire time.
What woke me up wasn't Bellamy, it was the vibration I felt in the dirt. I shot my eyes open and the first thing I heard was motorcycles coming in our direction. It was sunlight out, which meant Bellamy let me sleep a lot longer than I said for him to let me. That was something I could be annoyed with him later about.
Bellamy rushed over to me and grabbed my arm to stand up, "we need to get cover now."
I immediately followed his directions and we made our way to some thick bushes that would hide us enough. All the others did the same. Octavia planted herself on the side of me that Bellamy wasn't on. Thankfully, we weren't far enough away to where we couldn't see or hear anything going on.
All of us were watching in complete silence as the two men got off their bikes and started conversing. "Sector D is all clear," one of them said.
"You're free to head back to Sanctum with the Primes," the other stated.
"Thought I was gonna miss the namings," the first man sounded pleased.
"We'll check sector H when we get back. We can't take any chances today," one of the men concluded.
"Naming day?" Nelson questioned from behind me.
"He said namings, plural," Layla clarified the terminology.
One of the motorcycles started back up again and took off, the other guy hasn't got on his yet. All of a sudden, I saw Gabriel get up and book it towards the shield.
"Gabriel!" Bellamy shouted with a whispered voice, but Gabriel paid no attention.
"Shit," I seethed, whatever he was doing was going to throw our plan off.
When Gabriel launched himself through the shield, he collapsed to the ground which got the Sanctum guard's attention. He approached him with his gun raised at Gabriel's body, but didn't get the chance to shoot. Gabriel swiped his leg out, knocking the guard onto his back and he snagged his gun. Now their positions were completely switched.
I stood up out of the bushes and got as close to the shield as possible, Octavia and Bellamy were right beside me. "Gabriel, what the hell are you doing?" Octavia yelled.
Gabriel never took his attention off the guard, who was in a state of realization about the man above him.
"You said namings. How many? Who's coming back?" Gabriel grew aggressive .
"I don't know!" The guard was shaken by the situation he was in. "All of them, I think."
That was all Gabriel needed to hear, he lowered the gun and slammed the sole of his foot into the guards face. It knocked him out instantly.
Gabriel began to dress himself in the guard's clothes as he spoke to us, "I can't let Russell murder more innocent people."
"I know it's hard, but we have to stick to the plan," Bellamy tried to convince him out of whatever plan he had going on in his head. "Clarke gets the shield down and we use the toxin as a distraction to save our people."
"Well I have a new plan," Gabriel said as he took the coat off of the unconscious man. "We use our distraction to stop naming day. Look, I'm sorry, but unlike you I can't sacrifice the few to save the many."
There was no convincing him out of this and there was nothing we could do to physically stop him. Gabriel grabbed the helmet on top of the motorcycle and put it on. Next thing we know, he's revving the bike and taking off to the middle of Sanctum.
"This wasn't the damn plan," I whispered to myself as we all watched Gabriel speed away.
