The guards led us into the room that the remainder of our friends were in. I watched as Madi ran up to Clarke and engulfed her into a hug as soon as she laid eyes on her. Bellamy broke off from beside me and went up to Murphy who was now awake and alert. Everyone was giving hugs at our small reunion, but I hung back. I looked over to see Reese gazing at me, he nodded his head in my direction as a way to say welcome back.
Shortly after we entered the room, Russell and his wife entered the space. I turned to look at them as he spoke, "it's been a long day, so I'll keep this short. Sanctum was created to be a sanctuary for the human race."
Russell turned his head to look directly at Clarke, "after seeing you save Delilah, we've decided that you deserve that too."
"You changed your mind?" Clarke asked, her voice hopeful. "We can stay?"
"For now. But, no more of you," Simone spoke up. "You will follow our rules and respect our traditions and we'll teach you how to survive here."
"What my wife is trying to say is, welcome to Sanctum," Russell simplified with a smile tugging on his lips.
I felt my lips pull themselves into a small smile as Bellamy came up beside me. He pulled me into a hug and I returned it, feeling grateful that we were accepted into these people's home.
As I pulled away from the embrace, my eyes caught that Simone was approaching Diyoza. "You're with child. How far along?" She asked her as she saw her stomach.
"Six months, give or take," Diyoza revealed. She had a small smile on her lips, it was the most genuine expression I've ever seen from her.
"Through cryosleep then?" Simone was intrigued.
"Right," Diyoza replied.
"That's remarkable," Simone stated. "If you'd like, we can have one of our prenatal physicians examine you in the morning."
"I like," Diyoza nodded in agreement. "Thank you."
"You should've seen Diyoza and Octavia fighting the terrorists," Madi said softly to Clarke. I internally cringed at Octavia's name, knowing what question was to follow.
"Where is Octavia?" Clarke wondered, looking over to Bellamy and I. I could sense Bellamy's body tense, but neither of us got a chance to explain what happened.
"Charmaine Diyoza?" Russell questioned with a hint of anger in his voice.
"Yes," Diyoza answered with her previous smile completely dropping off her face.
"Escort this woman past the shield right now," Russell immediately ordered.
"Just wait, what is this?" Bellamy tried to figure out what the deal was. The guards began to surround Diyoza.
"Seems my reputation precedes me," Diyoza answered.
"You could say that," Russell stated. "Your face is in our history books, next to Hitler and Bin Laden."
"She's carrying a baby," I tried to reason with him, but he wasn't having it.
"If any of you care to join her, be my guest," Russell retaliated.
We all watched in silence as they escorted Diyoza out, Simone and Russell following behind.
"One way or another, the devil gets his due," I could hear Murphy remark. I turned to look at him taking a sip from a small cup, looks like he already found the booze.
—
I couldn't get myself to sleep, I laid in bed beside Bellamy with my eyes wide open for the rest of the night. All I could think about was Octavia. I didn't regret the decision of leaving her, but I couldn't stop worrying if she would be okay.
