I did not wrap my fingers around his hand but he holds mine tightly. Mom looks at me and I look at her. I raised a brow, now what is her problem? She widened her eyes as she points out my hand.
"What?" I said.
"We're praying and we want to feel the peace and the connection of the passing energies." She says.
I roll my eyes and finally just wrapped my fingers around his hand. I closed my eyes and thought of surviving this dinner beside him instead of feeling the presence of God. He clears his throat along with his hand gripping mine, holding it like a stress ball.
"Dear Lord, we thank you for this night, for the food we'll be eating and the laughters that's about to happen. Thank you for the blessings, thank you for you've let my plane land safely earlier and thank you for keeping May safe."
My heart raced in a sharp pierce, as I open my eyes and slowly turn my head and looked at him. He has a little smile on his cheeks, "We surely will enjoy this dinner and may continue us to shower with.."
When he opens them, I shut my eyes fast and turn my head down and pretend to still listen to his prayer.
"Blessings.. amen." He says.
Everyone lets go of each other's hands and when I felt that Aunt Mary lets go of mine, I instantly removed my hand from his hand and put them on my thighs.
"Let's eat?" Mom says.
And so, we dine. The meal was good, the questions they gave were by far more about my job and how I survived being alone in my own apartment which made Shawn a little uncomfortable. I know. I can feel it. I can sense it, but I answered proudly.
"By the way, when are you two getting married?" Mom asked.
I alertly looked at her but she wasn't talking about me and Shawn but Tippy and Sam. It's pretty insensitive for them to think I'd marry him or even let him court me to become his girlfriend again after all of that long waiting, they expect it would be that easy? He expects it would be that easy? That's dumb. They must've thought it's just like in the animes, cartoons and movies.
"Oh, we're still planning." Sam says.
"Yeah. We still have a long way to go." Tippy adds.
"True. But we're thinking of a church wedding."
"Or a beach wedding."
"How many kids are you planning on having?" Aunt Mary asks.
Sam and Tippy looks at each other and then back to us with an awkward smile, "Maybe 1 or 2?" Tippy says.
"Or more than that." Sam connects Tippy's statement to his, "Maybe 6 or 10."
Tippy yanks her head with her eyebrows wrinkling, "What do you think of me? A freaking rabbit?!"
We all shared a laugh because obviously, 10 is like already building a community and Tippy's got a point. But there's a saying that if a couple loves each other so much, they'll make love and produce so many babies.
"Well, I'm ready to be the godmother of all of them." I said with a chuckle.
"Can I be a godparent too?" Shawn asks with the innocence in his voice.
"Of course man." Sam says.
I looked at them with the asking for help with a small glimpse of insincere smile on my lips and Tippy and Sam knows I'm not having it.
"I require every godparent to give my children an early present." Tippy jokes.
"Sure. What kind of gift?" Shawn confidently said.
"Reconciliation." Tippy replied.
"Reconciliation?" I ask in curiosity.
"Yes. Reconciliation." Tippy darts her eyes to mine and I already know what she's talking about.
I didn't speak for a second, there's like a gap between her speech to mine, "I guess I'll just wait until you give birth."
She shrugs, "Kay. You better make sure."
"I'm sure, because when that day comes, I know I'm probably married and I wouldn't mind taking that peace you guys are talking about."
Shawn turns his head to me and I'm pretty sure he knows I'm not talking about him, I'm not referring to him. I can't see his face fully but I can see him from the corners of my eyes and I know he's not pleased.
We continue to eat dinner until we're all full and the plates where the delicious foods were left without a trace. It was hell of a feast. We collect the dirty plates and I was the one about to wash them clean, until Mom and Aunt Mary took the responsibility. They want me to just go and socialize with Tippy, Sam and of course, Shawn.
We went to the living room. Sam and Tippy's sitting beside each other, I just went and sat beside Tippy while Shawn stood beside the entrance.
"So.. are we still going to the movies?" Sam asks.
"Is it still open?" I ask back.
"Oh yeah, I almost forgot! Come on, hurry hurry! Stand up, let's go." Tippy says as she stands up.
"We're still going?" I ask confused.
"Yep." Tippy picks up her jacket and grabbed Sam's hand and yelled, "Mrs. Archer?!"
"Yes sweetie?" Mom yells back.
"I'm just gonna take May to the movies, she owes me!"
"Okay, sure. Just be careful."
"Thanks Mrs. Arch!"
"Wait, I owe you?!"
"Nah. Let's go."
Tippy opens the door and both of them were about to head out, I followed them, leaving Shawn behind but as soon as I was about to close the door, "Can I come?" He asks.
We stopped, the three of us looked at each other's faces and I'm already widening my eyes at Tippy and Sam, giving a signal not to let him join us but they still did it.
"Sure Shawn! I thought you don't ever wanna come." Tippy cheerfully dropped her sentence.
I bit my lip inside my mouth, hardly. This is another trouble that I'd have to conceal all throughout the time.
"Great! I'll just go get something. I'll be quick." Then fast thuds hits. I look back to check if he's still behind me and he's gone upstairs.
"The hell Tips?!"
"What?"
"Why did you ask him to come with us?!"
"Because I want my children's godparents to be friends."
"Idióta! I'm—"
"Let's go guys?" Shawn says from behind and I was instantly quiet like a flower in stillness.
