Twenty One

I was staring at the common room bulletin board
It was the next morning and I was dressed in a long sleeved white shirt with red sweatpants on

I looked at the tryouts parchment that was attached to the board
  "Congratulations Cora Yaxley"

  "I can't believe it" I said softly

I felt a hand go on my shoulder
  "Believe it, you did the best" Oliver said "we have our first Hogsmeade visit this weekend, we can meet to get you a broom then"

  "Uh yeah"
I had absolutely no money, I wasn't sure how I was going to pay for a broom

Oliver left and in his place came Hermione

  "Congratulations" she said hugging me "I know you wanted it"

  "I did, but I have a problem"

She looked concerned and pulled me over to the bay window in the corner of the room
  "What's wrong?"

I looked around for ease droppers but no one was in the common room but Hermione and I
Oliver left to go who knows where

  "I have no money"

  "That's not a big problem, what do you need money f—oh. For equipment huh"

I nodded my head
  "I don't know what I'm going to do. I wanted this position badly but Hermione I literally have nothing to my name...my father stopped giving me money when I fought back"

  "We will figure something out. Can you ask Draco for some money? I'm sure he wouldn't care you'll pay him back when you can"

  "No. I don't want Draco worrying about me anymore than he already does, if I tell him how broke I am he will. Also I can't go to Hogsmeade. He didn't sign my release paper, he said it was pointless"

  "Lucky for you I have ways of getting in" the voice of Fred said from behind me
I didn't realize he snuck up on us
How much did he hear

Hermione rose her eyebrows
  "Oh?"

He winked at her
  "Don't worry about it Granger this is for us hoodlums not for your types"

She looked at me and rolled her eyes
  "I have homework to do, I don't mind helping you if you need it"

I nodded my head
  "Thank you"

She left her seat and Fred took it instead
  "You look stressed what's wrong?"

He didn't hear the whole conversation

  "I was stressed about missing Hogsmeade"
It wasn't a lie, I just avoided my bigger stress

  "George and I have ways of fixing that, Harry couldn't go either this year. I'll show you both how to get in and out without a permission slip"

I smiled at him
  "I can't wait"

He got up from his seat and picked me up into a tight hug
  "Congratulations on getting onto the team" he said softly to me "Oliver asked the teams opinion yesterday and we all agreed you were the better option. I'm biased though"

  "Thank you" I hugged him tightly back before he set me on the ground "when's first practice?"

  "This monday, it's Monday Wednesday and Fridays. When we have a game it's usually on Saturdays"

  "Ok cool so Monday is the first?"

  "Yes, you can use the spare broom until we go to Hogsmeade. The extra brooms we have are fine but you should get a better one, next to my bat the broom is my second most expensive item I've purchased for quidditch. The uniforms are free, but if you want a long sleeved one it cost a little to get. Let me know and I can tell Oliver what you need"

  "The regular uniform is fine"
One less thing I have to worry about buying

  "You'll get cold in that, I know how you run cold most of the time"

  "No its ok Fred I'm sure flying around and sweating will change that"

  "Flying around makes it worse Corey, is buying one a problem? I can buy it for you"

I put my hand on his chest
  "No please it's ok really"

  "If you insist" he said hesitantly "want to go for a walk around with me? Maybe we can go to the Black Lake"

I nodded my head and we left to go explore

We walked around for hours until George found us and made Fred follow him
  "I'll bring him back" George said to me

I laughed
  "Ok I'll be here" I sat down by a tree and stared off at the lake

They left and I was alone at the tree
I hadn't been alone for a while
Not even in my dorm, Hermione often slept beside me keeping me company

I wasn't alone for long
I heard footsteps coming up to me and when I looked I saw Professor Lupin coming towards me

  "Hello Cora, mind if I join you?"

  "No, please do"

Professor Lupin sat beside me, he kept a healthy distance though

  "Congratulations on making the team, I heard this morning from McGonagall. She's excited for the team this year"

I smiled
  "Thank you"

  "You don't sound excited though"

I debated telling him my problems
He's easy to talk to maybe I should
He won't worry about me like my friends will
It won't burden him the same way it will then

  "My father as you know has treated me terribly my entire life. He stopped giving me money for school when I fought back at him last summer, a broken arm and empty wallet is what I left the house with. I need a new broom for the team and I don't know how I'm going to get one. I have literally nothing to my name, do you think I can get work in the kitchen here or maybe at Hogsmeade I can work there?"

  "You could ask, but that won't help you for this coming game or in practices. maybe you can borrow money from a friend and pay them back when you have some?"

I looked at the ground
  "I don't want them to know...I already feel like a burden to them I don't want it to get worse"

  "You're not though, they love you"

  "I've never felt love until I came to Hogwarts...I'm sorry I don't know why I'm telling you this"

Professor Lupin got up
  "It's ok, I've been told that I'm a great listener. Anytime you need someone to talk to Im here for you ok?"

I nodded my head and watched him leave the area
Why do I feel so comfortable with him
