For the next week Danny stayed in his house alone.  The kids were all separated, and Jessica was still in the hospital of course.

This time alone was torture.  Danny was worried for his wife.  He missed having a loud crazy house, all he wanted was for things to go back to normal.

Danny sat there on the couch feeling absolutely useless.  There was nothing he could do to fix this.  He couldn't make Jessica better, he couldn't take this horrible illness away.

What was going on in the world?  He felt all hope was lost at this point.

Feeling more lost than ever Danny called the hospital hoping for good news.

"Please.  I have to see her, I haven't been anywhere, please just let me be with her."

"Sir I'm sorry but we're not allowing anyone in.  Your wife is on the Covid floor and there are absolutely no visitors allowed.  We're sorry."

"Can you just tell her I love her?  Tell her I'm sorry I can't be with her.  I promised her she wouldn't be there alone.."

Danny felt his heart couldn't take it anymore.  First the accident, now this.  Jessica has been through so much these last few years.  Danny just wished he could make everything better for her.

April.

The kids are now back with Danny.  They haven't left the house in weeks, and it's starting to get to everyone.

Danny's losing it without Jessica.
Here he is alone with six kids and a wife in the hospital on a ventilator.  He wished he could go back to when Jessica first got out of the hospital.  He wished he could have protected her more.

One day when Danny was going through some of Jessica's things Sofia walked over to sit with him.

"How are you doing, daddy?" She asked, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder.

Danny looked up and smiled softly. "I'm okay, pretty girl.  How are you?"

Sofia sighs deeply. "I'm okay."

Danny takes her hand and guides her onto his lap. "You know.. you don't have to be strong for me."

"Yes I do.  You're weak, dad."

Danny couldn't help but laugh. "I know that."

"But It's just because you're in love.  The woman you love is laying in a hospital bed and you don't know if she'll live or die."

"Sof."

"It's true.  I'm trying prepare myself.. I don't want her to go but.. maybe that's God's plan."

"It isn't.  It can't be.  She hasn't lived enough.  I haven't given her the life she deserves."

"Daddy, momma was happy.  You gave her a great life."

Danny nods his head as tears begin rolling down his face. "I hurt her so many times."

"She's forgiven you."

"I know but shouldn't have.
I should have done so much more.  I should have have taken her out more.  She and I should have taken more trips together.  We should have taken more trips as a family.. Now I don't know if we'll ever get that chance again." He says as a sob escapes his lips.

Sofia wraps her arms around her father and holds him tightly.

"She loves you.  You're her whole world.
The time you spent apart.. daddy she still loved you."

"I just can't imagine living without her.  I can't imagine her missing your graduation, or your wedding.. I want her to be a grandma one day.  I don't want her to go!"

"I know.. but she's suffering right now, daddy."

"I know.  I don't know what to do."

Sofia holds onto her father as he cries like a baby.

"DAD!" Jackson runs in in a panic.

"What?!" Danny and Sofia jump up.

"It's Arabella!"

"What happened?!"

"She- she's on the floor and she's shaking.  I-I don't know what's wrong with her!"

Danny takes off running to his daughter.  Sofia and Jackson following behind.

"Arabella!" He shouts. "She's having a seizure, someone call 9-1-1!"

I know I said a year ago that there were only a few more chapters left.... just ignore that, I'm really not sure how many are left🤣

I need your help though!  Please let me know what you think about this story.

Should Jessica recover?  Or should we see how Danny would handle being a single father of six?
