MA BRANCH IN HAI CITY, CHINA
Qi Xiuran had already made preparations for the arrival of the ghost king in Hai City when the temperature dropped and snowflakes started to flurry down from the sky in the neighbouring city. On this night, not a single MA member could sleep as they were all awaiting orders at their designated locations.
It would be best if the ghost king was just passing through. Then, they would only need to protect the departed spirits within the area they were responsible for so as to prevent those spirits from turning into ghosts filled with resentment when the ghost king passed by. However, if the ghost king's target was Hai City, they would also be able to react appropriately to the circumstances immediately. Of course, deep within all of the MA members' hearts, they hoped that the ghost king was only intending to pass by just like what he had done in the other cities. However, the world was just like Schrödinger's cat; the more one feared a certain outcome, the more likely it would occur instead.
MA Chairman Qi Xiuran, Grandmaster Xu and all the other members who stayed behind to defend the association's building, gazed at the approaching immense ghost energy that towered like a mountain. A single thought all popped in their minds collectively: I'm afraid it's my death day today.
Even though Qi Xiuran knew that he would most likely die today, he, as the chairman of the association, still heroically walked out of the building to await the arrival of that ghost energy. Usually, malicious ghosts were natural enemies of the association. All MA members would definitely cleanse any ordinary malicious ghosts they encounter. If they discover a ghost general, they would first ask if the ghost was willing to depart for the Underworld. Otherwise, they would exterminate the ghost. However, if the other party was a ghost king... all they could only resort to, was negotiation.
After all, they undoubtedly weren't able to win against a ghost king.
The speed of the moving ghost energy was extremely fast. In a blink of an eye, it appeared right before them. The rate of snowfall also rapidly increased in the areas that the ghost energy passed by. In just a short while, a thick layer of snow piled up on the ground.
"Ghost King-...." Even though Qi Xiuran had ample preparation and condensed all his spiritual power internally, all he could do was to shout out 2 words before he was struck head-on by the influx of sinister energy and flung several metres away, blasting a hole through the reception area's wall.
"Chairman!" The rest of the MA members shouted out in shock. Before they could take any other actions, an invisible pressure crushed them from above. The force was so great that it caused them to spit out fresh blood and collapse onto the ground. Only Grandmaster Xu, who had stronger metaphysical prowess above the rest, was not flattened onto the ground, but forced to his knees from the pressure instead. The elder then looked towards the male figure that stepped out of the cloud of ghost energy.
That male figure was clad in armour from head to toe. His face had a menacing scar running from the centre of his forehead all the way down to the side of his neck, instilling fear in anyone who looked upon him. He had thick brows, tiger-like eyes and an aura of ruthlessness colder than the snow outside. At his back was a towering mass of ghost energy, seemingly with tens of millions of ghost soldiers shrouded within. This man must be a battle-hardened general back while he was still alive.
It was no surprise. After all, if this man did not die during the tumultuous warring era, where would he have found so many vengeful ghosts to devour to become a ghost king.
"So it was you ants who have harmed my daughter?" Ghost King's voice was like a booming bell as it reverberated around the reception area of the association, sending shivers down their spines.
