CHARLOTTE'S POV

When each institute had their own meeting, Jace and Clary called all the eighteen-year-old from our institute to give their final choice on our year-off. I had been thinking about it for a long time, but I had never been that sure, until tonight. Jace and Clary called me in and I was the last one, as it was a formal meeting, it would not be in a friendly way, and it would be soldier to head of institute relationship. "Charlotte Verlac, this is your last meeting before telling the whole world about your choice." Clary started and I nodded, secure of my answer. "Did you take your decision?" Jace asked, almost scared of my answer. I just nodded and sighed. "I'll be going to the London institute." I spoke and they were shocked. They really thought I would stay in the States. Clary coughed and put her normal face on. Jace looked the paper in front of him and scribbled down some words. "Any particular reason you want to go to London?" He asked without looking at me.

I sighed, he knew the reason, but I also knew that he needed to hear me saying it. "I need to close the chapter." My words were clear and both of them knew what we were talking about, but I did not want to keep talking about it, at least not now. "Do you have relatives there, miss Varlac?" Clary kept following the script as Jace kept looking his paper because he was fighting his urges to go and hug me. I was not expecting that question and I did not know how to react. "I-I have. I mean, I had." I tried to keep going as normal as I could, but I was not doing a great job. I thought on being brave and the rune activated itself. "When are you planning on going there?" Clary read once again and I read my own notes. "In a few days, Mr. Bane will portal us to each and every institute." Just then, Jace looked up, but he did not meet my stare. "You need to fill these sheets and you will be ready to go." He said and I stood up. "Thank you."

Once I was outside, I sighed once again and started walking away. I had to get ready for tonight's diner, where we finally confess the world our choices, but I was not ready to do that yet, so I went to the Green House. To my non surprise, Jace and Alec were waiting for me. I rolled my eyes, of course they would be there. "London, really?" Jace said and I just shrugged. "Jace, I'm going to be okay, you trained me to be smartly safe. So, let me go." Jace started pacing around as Alec just hid his own worry. I knew both of them were worried for what had happened to my cousin Sebastian, but they needed to trust me. "I'll call you every day and whenever you don't answer, I will portal there, Charlie." Jace stated and I just smiled at him as I got closer to his arms. Sebastian was just like Jace and I had realized that he felt guilty for what had happened to Sebastian, although I knew it was not his fault. The only one at fault was Jonathan. Clary's brother.

"I know you would, Jace and I totally appreciate it, but I'm sure I'll be fine." I said from within his embrace. "You need to let me go, eventually." I whispered in his ear and he just held me tighter. "She's ready, Jace." Alec added, but his eyes did not show the same emotion. I extended my arms and pulled Alec to our hug too. "I'm going to be fine, guys. Whenever I feel that I'm in trouble, I'll portal myself back home." They let me go after a while and just then, they seemed okay with my choice. I smiled at them and we all walked back to the dining room, where dinner was about to be served. We sat down and after Jace speech, all the eighteen-year-old had to share with the rest of the guest our final decisions on our year off. When I was about to tell mine, the alarm went off and I followed my team, soon enough we were all in the streets. I loved going into missions with Jace, he was really good and he had found a nice fit with Clary and Izzy.

I was the missing piece, like Jace liked to call me and I knew people was envious of me, but at this time, I did not care at all. After taking care of that demon, we all came back and just had a moment to ourselves, the annual meeting was coming to an end and the institute would be emptier by tomorrow.
